Bag : depends on the brand and quality, from $20 no-names to $100+ Domkes ( if you can still find them ), and in betweens ( Tamracs, LowePro, etc ). Frankly, it doesn't really matter that much since the 300D is relatively small and light for an SLR. When things get heavier, you'll need a top notch bag though.

CF Card : A good 256MB card like the Transcend x45 series should be around $120 or so. I got my 512MB in Oct for $235 from Eastgear. They are in Peninsular Plaza, and at URL www.eastgear.com. Prices for their cards are far better than Cathay, while MSColor and AP at that time didn't have Transcend cards. Note that a high quality JPEG for the 300D weighs in at 3MB in size. Your 256MB card won't hold that many photos. Probably not enough for an entire day's shoot. I recommend a 512MB instead ( or 2 x 256MB, so that you have a backup in case one fails ).

how much is "Hardly Normal" selling ? thinking of paying by Installment, but I didn't see this 300D leh..

they selling at S$1999 nett, go order at millenmium branch, think only that branch gives free 256MB CF (the last time i checked abt 3 weeks ago).

I own this 300D and this is my personal experienced using the 300D. Just wonder you all guys have notice that the picture quality produce by 300D is not very good as compare to any normal digital camera ( although some of you may think that's not too fair comparing to consumer camera). Try yourself shoot the pictures, view in monitor and make a print outside. I can assure you that DSLR may not get a SHARP image as compare to consumer Digital camera. The color produced by 300D is RICH and CLEAR only but not sharp and contrast.

I even mentioned the problem to Canon Singapore and the straight answer given by them is "This is the nature built for 300D, The sharpness and Contrast can only be control using the parameter setup to increase to +1 or +2. And 300D is design in such that professional photographer need to do adjusting using Photoshop. Well to me it is rather inconvenient and not logical !

Any commend ? Please correct or advise me if i'm wrong.

Hi Nic

Its a know fact that canon produces softer images. However as you go along you will appreciate them. As for sharpness, the answers lies in the technic (correct exposure/iso/shutter etc) and lens used. 300D is not another point and shoot digicam, else why so many pay so much for it. We would be better off using A80 or 70.

ps: me too still learning to take good pic.
sorry my 2 cents.

Nicholas. When you bought the 300D, it came with software called "Fileviewer Utility". Take your pictures in RAW format, and then use this program to view them. There's a button on the top left hand corner that allows you to see the focus points. I find that this helps quite a bit. Also, what aperture settings are you using? Try doing this: Aim at what you want sharp, press the shutter buttom to lock the focus, then recompose while holding it there, then shoot.

Yes ! As I mentioned earlier, Photo quality produces from 300D cannot directly relate to any normal Consumer digital camera.

I have learn to use a Manual mode to control the aperture and shutter-speed and physically press and hold and aim the object before snapping it. Of course using a prime lens of F2.8 or lower can make some different but in most layman people like friends, client or anyone else who know nothing about Digital SLR can only appreciate the very sharp images produced by the consumer digital camera.

I fully agree that the images printed out from 300D are very Rich in color and softer in object but I just need a sharper image.

Sorry, someone else have mentioning about 28-105 MKII USM lens. What brand name is this MKII USM ? Price ? Where to purchase ?

EF 28-105 II USM is from Canon. I'm using one. Its a great general purpose lens. Got it for $500 + from ALan photo. Beware of Gray set @ $450+(parallel imports ) thought, they give shop warranty not warranty card by canon.

If you have much more to spent go for 28-135 IS (image stabaliser) series. There is a tread on this Is lens and Tamron, check them out.

Also check out 50mm F1.8 @ $130-160?

Alternatively, get the 28-105 II USM used. I bought mine from a good fellow for $295. Money well spent IMO.

Canon is right. Many DSLRs are made this way for a good reasons :

1. Sharpening, once applied in camera, cannot be undone. So it's better not to apply it in camera, so you have control on how much sharpening to be done later on in post processing. Newbies may find it inconvenient, but convenience is not why you buy a DSLR.

2. Sharpening can add artifacts and noise. Again, when you get a DSLR, you want minimum defects.

For a professional ( or serious hobbyist ), excessive in-camera sharpening is a disadvantage because it takes away from you control of the final image. That's why you didn't buy a point and shoot in the first place. These consumer compacts sharpen the image in-camera to produce more punch.

On the other hand, if someone wanted minimum postprocessing, he could increase the sharpness parameter to +2. I did that for a shoot which does not require large prints.

Interested to get a 300D however like to check if those normal cannon len from SLR able to fix onto the 300D?

Thanks.
