You going to Tekong BMTC or direct enlistment to unit?
As we'll always tell our recruits, hp can bring, but lost don't come and blame us. My Advice is to bring those super old one where no one even to bother to steal it.
Money wise, best to bring enought to last you till our first bookout. I'll say $50 should be more then enough.

Besides those you need everyday, there are no much things to prepare unless you want to be very well prepare in advance.
I'm sure you can get what ever you need during the first book out but time's short during book out. By the time you reach home, probably abt 2 or 3 on Sat and need to book in around 6 or 7 on Sunday.

2. Torch light, maybe maglite
3. Small Lock, just in case your coy dun provide (dun buy number lock as some instructor dun like)
4. Charger isn't allowed.

2. Undergarments (10)
3. Washing powder/ detergent
4. Clothes pegs ( 10-15) they always kena kope by your section mates
5. Slippers
6. Alarm clock
7. cheap radio or fm reciever.. for after a tough day where u need music
8. phonecard ( i think theyll give u one the first day)
9. handphone (depending on which you u go to, first 2 weeks may not be allowed to bring)
10. Money ( i think 30 should be enough. in any case, if really not enough, can get from parents when they come visit)
Toiletries
11. toothbrush
12. toothpaste
13. shaver ( though they will give Mach 3 before POP)
14. Face wash ( it helps. not kuniang.. when u whole face pimple until cannot tahan, then cannot train, that time see whether say kuniang not)
15. Soap ( liquid one better.. faster)
16. Face towel ( actlly this one duneed)
17. Nail clipper (life saver for parades.. will save u from show parade.)
Basic Medication
18. Deep heat ( v v impt... u will need it)
19. Panadol ( for those days when u feel a bit off)
20. Po Chai Pills / Charcoal pills
21. Lozenges ( bring many many.. to fight the dreaded tekong cough)
22. Plasters ( normal and this one that is called leuko plast.. its basically fabric tape... goot for protecting hands during SOC.)
23. Vitamin C ( if u want la.. it beats drinking water all the time)
24. Prickly heat Snake powder
Stationery
25. The pens that got many colours in one pen.. buy as many as possible.. this kinda thing ppl tend to kope
26. Permanent black marker( to mark your stuff)
27. Ruler & Eraser ( for whenever )
28. Pencil
29. Penknife ( quite useful)
30. Scissors ( also quite useful)
31. Lighter ( for burning stray threads on your uniforms)
Misc
32. Extra pair of specs ( the plastic black frame one is a favourite)
33. Cheap reliable watch
34. Padlock with at least 3 keys ( apparently now they supply this)
35. Toilet roll ( they normally issue, but for first few days, in case of logistic problems..)
36. Wet tissue ( for in camp use. DONT Bring outfield.. this one will kena screw if u bring outfield and use)
37. Food - Oreos tend to be a favourite. also biscuits, muesli bars, bei bei mian... basically to satisfy hunger late at night and if you have time.. it becomes a social activity when u set up a section snack fund and buy tidbits every weekend for the whole section. then can sit around talk kok. last time my sec comd also sit with us eat biscuits and talk rubbish)
Yep... Nice to see that you have a good attitude going into it! As a recently ORDed personnel, i can tell you that NS is DAMN BLOODY FUN... not the training la.. its more the ppl who you train with who will make it fun. after ORD, a bit sian.=)

really must get some biscuit cause recuits get really hungry and though the cookhouse food is a lot...
there's washing machine to be shared among every 2 coy ($1 per use)
but actually you dun really need to wash your clothes with washing powder, but undergarment please do.
cause the camo uniform is so damn hard to wash with washing powder if you are doing it by hand (most ppl did it by hand)

U can consider buying a pair of cheap black gloves. Just to protect the palm & knuckles. Might be useful for SOC (if ur coy allows using gloves) but DEFINITELY useful during field camp, trench digging, fire movement. Oh yah, U look 
too. Heh~
