Enhanced infant & child care incentives good?

When news of extra $ will be given, those eligible are naturally happy. But do they really benefited from it??

My answer will be, given no choice yes but if I can change this, I would prefer no but to lower fee.

I would rather the government allow the use of the space free. I wonder does the NPP pays rent? Operators will then have no excuse to raise fee. They are required to be transparent in their operating cost. If A can't manage it, let the more enterprising people runs it or even run them like public schools.

By increasing such incentives is basically jacking up cost of living. You get $100, you will ends up paying $400 more soon.

Please keep inflation down. Don't give out any more incentives. Those who get them will have to pay more eventually. Those who don't also have to contribute and will be affected. Although we do generate income for a small section of the people, the majority suffer.

If big house that can accommodate more people under one roof is affordable....I will consider having second child....I will then get my parent to stay together to help look after....dangling cash carrot does not solve the root cause of the problem.....it merely pacifiers those low income but.....with working husband wife clocking long hour of work.....the kid's attention and well being will be sacrificed...

Main problems are ...
1) Rising cost of living
2) High housing cost and smaller flat
3) High Child Care Center Cost
4) High medical cost ( for children and elderly parents )
5) Stagnant wages

I agree with you that giving out more incentives will just encourage the operators to jack up the prices. Why? because parents will never save on their child's education. If I can afford a $800 childcare previously, I will just look for a more expensive childcare with more subsidies.

The solution is not force the operators to reduce their prices as that is IMPOSSIBLE and not practical in a free market (you get people anyhow cutting corners). The true solution is to give one year of free childcare to everyone by making everyone enter Primary school earlier, ie all Primary school will need to have 1 year of pre primary. I remember my primary school used to have something like this many many years ago.

The above is the most effective solution to reduce cost for Parents AND provide a LEVEL playing field for everyone. I raised it up but I think the solution is tooo troublesome to implement, takes the most work for the government. So easiest way out is just increase subsidy. Just key computer...

The pre primary scheme was introduced some 24 years back. My daughter was in the pre primary back then. Somehow they change again. Must be change in minister and new KPI.

Government runs infant care and pre school is the way to go. Not incentives. Privatize HDB or schools, the rich, poor gap will widen.

Someone being interviewed on the news said cannot everything depends on government. Someone should tell that guy to be more concise in his statement. If the direct and indirect cost of having more babies has been kept affordable to the masses, then there will not be any need for subsidies/incentives/grants/bonus schemes to grow the population.
