Anyone familiar with vacuum lifters?

Is it possible to create suction on concrete/ceramic floors using just foam pads and a hand pump?
Looks like a great alternative to sandbags.

I see. Not so practical after all. May be one day nano tech will give us a foam that can seal all gaps.
