Had sent in my EM1 for cleaning and servicing after an overseas trip. During the cleaning , the technician was alert enough to notice that the shutter sound on my EM1 was louder than the norm and out of goodwill was kind enough to replace one for me.

Yes, I do miss Olympus' splendid aftermarket service. Another good reason to buy into a system. They changed the entire (non-minty) top plate when one of the dials ceased to function.

Having said that, they tried very hard to explain why one of my EM1s had a louder shutter then the other four (manufactured by batch, earlier batch of EM1 with a certain type of shutter) without further action

Hopefully the em5ii's shutter will be more consistent

I recall reading that it's possible to assign custom modes to the art and scene selections on the dial. It seems that it's possible under option b of the menu, but it's greyed out for me. Anyone know how to enable this? Thanks.


Also, I really miss the tilting screen. I guess I just have to get used to this flippy screen. Love the shutter sound, and the possible lack of.

I kind of found this out by accident as I was wondering the same thing too. You will first need to create a custom setting first, only then will you be able to start assigning it in that menu you were speaking of.

To save a custom setting, first setup your camera how you like it, then go to the first page of the menus, then Reset/Myset and save the settings under one of the presets.

If shops are doing away with "street prices" altogether, then what you see now is probably what you will be getting..

If you have friends returning from overseas, or you travel a fair bit, changi airport is selling the body at 1.3k, with a free battery. No word on the 128gb card though, so you have to decide which item you prefer.

I normally wait 1 year. The lifespan of a camera model is typically 2 years (or more). The price drop will depend on the sales volume which is analyzed by quarters. A decision is only made after observing 3-4 quarters of sales trend.

Or you can wait for holiday promotions like what Mrwind says.

I believe it depends on the demand. If the demand is strong then OLy no point drop the price so soon, but year end should be good time

Well it used to be that what's quoted for RRP isn't the final selling price at the shops, allowing buyers to go around asking so that they could get the best deal. Now it's all RRP.
