I also tempted to get this lens but I'm choosing between 17-40L and 24-105L. Mainly I find that 17-40L contrast, sharpness is better than 24-105L. If I have enough cash, I will get two.

Right, the 18-55 IS is decent but the 24-105IS is better.

The Geely is decent but we chose the Honda.

The Akira is also decent but we chose the Sony.

calebk is right (as usual) the 18-55 IS version is quite decent.

I have used 24-105 for more than a year now.. lens is very sharp.. if you have FF, 17-40 and 24-105 will co-exist perfectly

The 24-105 is an excellent lens for walk-about due to its versatile zoom range. However sometimes I find that it is not wide enough (as I'm not using a FF camera - 40D).
However, despite that, most of my shots are captured with this lens and it is always mounted on my 40D.
It is not that heavy and easy to carry around.
Lastly, this lens may not be that great for low light or night photography.
Nevertheless, it is still an excellent lens overall, produces great quality pics, and highly recommended.

Cheers...

I have a 24-105, as long as I ignore the barrel distortion on the wide end, this lens is great :)

Might want to get a 16-35L to cover my wide range, and maybe a 100-400 for my zzzzzzoom range ;p

Just curious,
Will it be good to only bring 24-105 f4L for street shooting at night?

No. You should also bring a tripod.

Don't forget the camera as well :bsmilie:

But seriously, depends on what you want to shoot. Tripod may not be practical if you're shooting people. Liglt level varies - IS may give you a couple of stops, tripod allows multiple seconds exposure, but people are not statues. You'll end up with shots that have sharp background but people as blurry streaks.

A faster lens allows you to use faster shutter speed, but reduces your DOF. Increasing ISO also increases noise. There's no right answer - it all depends on the situation.

Assuming you are not using fullframe, IMO, it's very tight. 24 x 1.6 = 38.4mm.

With the same amount, you can get a nice 17-55mm f2.8. =)

I don't like wide angle neither do I mind the tight spot. It subjective for person to person. The 24-105 give me more result den with the range the 17-55 give me
