Editing with iMovie for iPad

Hi everyone,

I like to find out if the iMovie App for iPad/iPad2 suitable for importing and editing of video from DSLR and Camcorder? Or do I need to do video format conversion through other applications before importing to the iPad?

I did a search in Apple website and the info I got is that the iMovie for iPad is only good to edit video from the iPhone,iPod and iPad. Through other website sources, some people claimed that a conversion need to be done but there is no concrete details about doing it. I am noobie with video editing and the iMovie on my iMac has been a wonderful tool to edit my family video, so I am hoping to extend my editing when I am on the move.

Can someone advise me? Thanks

No ... Not suitable for DSLR if you are talking about 720p or 1080p. The IPAD cannot handle.

Even if need to convert, it will take too much time and effort. By the time you convert in your imac & transfer to ipad, you should have edited the whole clip in imac already.

I tired and successfully edited videos on the iPad taken with my Canon 1Dmk4.
But I 1st have to convert from 1080p to 720p.

1. Take videos with your video cam in 1080p, 25fps.

2. Convert to 720p, 25fps, MOV format. MAKE SURE to convert audio to 44.1kHz, NOT 48kHz. iMovie cannot handle 48kHz.
I used Wondershare Video Converter Platinum.
Output format is:
HD Video --> MOV
Video Encoder: H.264, 1280*720, 25fps, 8000kbps
Audio Encoder: AAC, 44100Hz, 2 Channels Stereo, 128 kbps

Or you can use the free MPEG Streamclip, but I haven't got this working on my PC.

3. Copy all to a folder in your mac/pc.

4. Use iTune's "Sync Photos", and remember to tick include videos too.

5. Load iMovie and edit..

If thats the case, isnt the quality of video will be reduced? I was dreaming about editing my dslr/camcorder video in the ipad and then transfer to imac for dvd ripping.......so it is just a dream....:S
