Any ebay addicts here? What do you get from/browse on ebay? What's your best/most recent purchase? Seen any strange stuff being auctioned on ebay?

Erm, I'n not really a fanatic, but I've bought on ebay for quite a few times.

I mostly get PC parts from there..
The PCIMCIA cards are really dirt cheap man.
Wanted to get some filters there... some were cheap, but shipping's ex.
Shipping using USPS's Global Piority flat rate envelope (small - arrives in 5 days) costs USD$5.

I got a 3com Xjack 10/100 and modem cardbus for like less than $100, where it's selling in SLS for like $300 - $400?

Strange stuff?
I seen some houses being sold... dunno what nuclear silo
I think you can find the thread in CS... :D

hi snag, is ebay reliable? we are buying stuff from somone we don't know. We aren't buying from online shop. So could the user just send you an empty box and consider sold?

Thanks.

No really an addict, but have bought a few items off ebay, including my Olympus E-10. :p

Other stuff include anime collectibles, DVDs, some rare CDs, and full season VCDs. So far haven't been conned yet *crossing fingers*.

I always make it a point to bid only on sellers with mostly positive feedback, and with fairly a good number of feedback.

Bought some watches and 2nd hand lens for my old m42 mount camera at ebay. Hard to get in sg. Items arrived in good or better than expected condition so far.

Yeap!
I normally get from people with positive feedback.......
But there were some that i bought with less than 50 +ve feedback..

I think it's all about trust loh..
But you never know who's behind the PC.. So it's still better to get from somebody with a +ve feedback.

So i think ebay is a relatively good place to get 2nd hand stuff.....
But the only con is the darn shipping costs man.
Shipping from US costs quite a lot...

anybody here know if i can buy magnesium from ebay and bring it into sg?
it would be nice to burn some

neway how you all pay?
me student still no credit card

mostly pay by credit card/ paypal/ billpoint.

however, for my e-10, i paid via international bank draft at the singapore post center. :p only because the guy didn't accept credit cards.

It's mostly a question of trust, yes, but there are avenues of redress available if the seller doesn't live up to his end of the bargain. I use eBay a lot, and so far I've yet to be cheated on a single transaction. On the other hand, it must be said that one should be very careful when picking sellers to buy from; sellers who ask only for cash and/or money orders are definitely a big no-no.

I must also comment that eBay is admittedly a lot easier to use when you're in the US, because the fact is that most sellers are physically located here, so one can often just pick up the phone and talk to the seller if any problem arises or to clarify any doubts.

If you can't get your hands on a credit card yet, you may still be able to get a debit card from your bank. You should then be able to register an account with Paypal, and I believe Paypal allows direct transfers to and from Singapore bank accounts as well. Of course, debit card transfers are certainly more risky than credit card transactions, so choose your sellers wisely.

Been trying to use my American Express to complete the Paypal registeration, but always end up with error.

A check with AMEX reveals that both my charge and credit card had expired. :( Now waiting for wednesday to renew it. Been eyeing some lens quite awhile.

If I'm not wrong, you can't transfer funds from your bank account to Paypal, but you can do it vice versa.
But there will be charges to the bank account....

Hmm...
I don't really get why you said that debit card transfers are more risky than CC transfers....
??

I thought it was vice versa?

oh just go to the counter for money orders. you have to make sure you tell them that you're sending money overseas, so they give you a form for intl bank draft instead. there is a commission fee, but nowhere near as high as western union and the exchange rate's a bit better.

i guess one good thing abt the intl bank draft is that if something goes wrong (like your cheque gets lost in the mail and the recipient never got it), you can request stop payment and you get your money back, minus an administrative fee.

you can also track if your recipient has claimed the money or not.
