E620 grainy

last time in film photography,I don't think there was anyway to remove noise, so now can remove noise, I'm already happy for what I have :)

ISO 1600 film was horrible. even compared to OLY!!

was shooting with E620 + 14-54mm MK1 doing some night shots and some indoor and it seem after tweaking my E620 setting it now handles noise better

No post processing done

ISO-200 @ f22 exposure 30Sec WB 5000K (I think)

hey those pics look great. Noise is barely visible too..

What is the ISO setting for each shot? They all look great!

Not to be shy, I sold the E-620 also because of the grains in dark places. Tries many settings and finally gave up. Those grains were only 1 of those many problems.

I got an E-30 to replace. Not much better. That gradation defaults to AUTO is really a bummer by olympus. I have recently sold that E-30. But that was after I got an E-PL1.

One thing I notice is that Gradation of all the 3 cameras defaults to Auto. As for the grains in the dark areas, it's practically the same. Only now I can say it's a tiny camera..not one of them big bulky professional SLR. So have to expect them grains.

Thanks Bro, when I newly gotten my E620 my night shots even at ISO200 was showing some grainy and the black is not solid black after I did my tweak some of cam default setting this is the 1st time I've shoot night or low light again and I was surprise to see the colors and the dark shades..

I am not saying these pics are noise free but they are well under control by E620 :)

The 1st two was ISO-200
The lady was @ ISO-800

Thanks bro I was also manually playing with WB my setting was between 4600-5000K

You could set the gradation to normal, deeper shadows, less noise

Hi Bro when I sold my EPL1 for E620 and took my 1st few night and low light shots I regretted also until I came across the recommended settings, I try to find those old pics that I shoot with E620 and will try to post here :)

From my observations, the settings to reduce the grains would be similar for all the current e-system camera be it E-620, E-30 or those PENS.

For my EPL1 since I was new to interchangeable lens I really didn't change any default settings but it seems to procduce better noise control than E620. But ther are times I misses my EPL1

The noise control of newer cameras is expected to be better at higher ISO but at a loss of details. My E-330 gave better details but limited to only not more than ISO 200.

The ISO 800 looks really clean, I can see more noise in the ISO 200 shots. I think exposing correctly helps a lot when you're using higher ISOs, some people even overexpose slightly to deal with the noise.

My E520 gradation is always set to Normal. I use the Auto-Tone correction in Olympus Viewer though.

Nice shots bro! Now u have one less reason to switch to d90...;p

Never realize the noise, did you use the noise reduction(not noise filter)? That's one reason for the noise, also, black is never true black and white is never true black when shooting with camera auto modes regardless, because they will expose the blacks and whites to be or close to 18% grey, that's why when shooting white subjects, over expose by 2/3 stops and when shooting black subjects, under expose by up to 2 stops, all these varies though, but that's what the camera does and what we should do to compensate

Thanks Bro actually my brother was with me and we are shooting the same scene and he said Olympus color was very good.... he did give me pointers while taking shots... Itold him so now you know why I am using Oly? hahaha

The 3rd photo... she was with me ;) hehehe (joke, dont tell my wife). Actually I like her tattoo thats why I took the shot :)

Did a quick check of my cam and here's what I have

Gradation : Normal
Noise Reduction:On
Noise Filter: Off
Shading Compensation: On (may not be related to photo quality)

Hmm... I might be wrong, might be noise filter on and noise reduction off, anyway, for long exposures, the one that has only on or off must be turn on, otherwise it'll be grainy even as ISO 100,even if ISO 50 will still be noisy,ISO 15 also will be noisy, hahahah

wow ISO 15... oh my bro Nikon D90 and tamron lens has f32 or 35 wow when I want to get more details I could only go as low as f22...

Well, that's for film cameras, and can go lower though I've never seen or heard anyone using that, the lowest I've seen on any DSLR is ISO 50 from Canon as far as I've seen/heard/know. Even if can go f32 or 35, might only be useful for macro I guess, not really sure of the uses, but anyway, beyond a certain aperture, differs for each lens, diffraction sets in, there's an optimum sharpness for every lens range, after that, it becomes soft
