e500 vs e510

The 300 being coined as the "Ghetto Cam" is pretty prevalent at DPR though. :bsmilie:
Why is that so? Is it because only people who live in ghettos are interested in this camera? Or that it is so cheap that even ghetto dwellers can afford one? :dunno:

"GHETTOCAM" ISSUE WARNING : Please don't let this get personal. I smell gunpowder in here now. Believe me, I will not tolerate folks getting personal in here anymore. Please don't let flaming become a norm in here. Or pretty soon SU and Mods will be on your back. Please please please let me enjoy my time to talk about the gear we like in here, not having to edit post and delete postings.

I disagree with some members within this forums too, but this does not mean that we should start fighting with one another and letting the thread go to hell in the process, for it does not help anyone.

BTW, like tomcat mentioned... why is it called ghettocam??

aside from the IS and 2mp, what are the differences?
What happened to the original question and the title?

Remember! TS ask about E-500 and E-510, not about what you or others call your camera. I am no MOD or SU but I agree, please no fighting. Didn't we OT enough already? Could we go back to the track and discuss the actual title or at least keep to the subject of photography?

:cheergal: :vhappy:

There is more difference between the 2 cameras. The overall built is different, then developing engine inside is also different. The RAW files are compressed. That is just the released list. I am sure there are more stuff that Olympus don't wanna tell us.

Hmm, my take on the "ghettocam" moniker. I suppose it has something to do with the aesthetics of the E-3xx series? Since it doesn't look anything like a traditional camera, and to some (perhaps many) the design is.....ugly.

To say something looks "ghetto" means that it's probably ugly/cheap/ramshackle etc in street lingo, so perhaps "ghettocam" is something of the like.

That said though, I personally love the E-3xx series myself. Gotta love that articulated screen on the E-330, and I love its unique design. Hell, if there's an updated E-3xx with IS and stuff, I would get it in a flash.

Sorry for OT'ing.

For now, E-510 for the win! :D

Whatever you may say, I love that E-330. Give it a few months, I may get one....with no banding.

Just to revive this thread... just wanna say that I tried out the E-510, the grip feels rather E-1-like, if you know what I mean. It is noticeably more bulky than my E-500, which I find to be a perfect size for travelling, so now I am not sure whether to go for it or get the E-410 first and wait for the E-P1.

The difference in size between the E-410 and E-510 is really not that much as to make any difference when travelling since the main bulk of your gear are your lenses which would be the same whether you get the E-410 or E-510.

The main differences between the 2 cameras are IS and size of the batteries. The ability to handhold telephoto zooms with the E-510 might actually save you the burden of bringing along a tripod. IS also allows you to shoot inside buildings handheld where it is usually not possible because of low light levels and low shutter speeds. The smaller battery used in the E-410 means that you might run out of juice faster necessitating more frequent recharging and/or swapping of batteries during the trip. For these reasons, I would personally think that the E-510 is a better travelling companion than the E-410. ;)

My new E-510 seems to be smaller & less bulky than my old E-330... definately lighter. But as someone mentioned earlier before, i also felt my old E-330 have better built quality... The E-510's rotating dial behind the shutter button seems like will get loosen in time... not sure...

Yes, that it is for sure that the E-510 is both lighter and more compact than the E-330 which is rather bulky. I don't find the E-510's built quality to be worse than the E-330, more like equal but the E-330's added heft probably lend a greater sense of quality in your hands.

Maybe those that went from E-500 to E-510 feels immediately at home... E-330 to E-510 takes a bit of getting used to...
