E3/E620 vs Nikon D90

I'm glad you're learning to work with your E-620 now. Once you learn to work any equipment correctly, you'll get much better results.

Those brands do have quite a range of lenses available, but you always have to watch out for incompatibility with older lenses and there is quite a bit of rubbish available. You know that, just because it fits doesn't mean that it's going to work well.

Oh was in one of the electronic store with family and I had with me my oly and was checking out the other brands the guy told me rubbish to make me dump my oly and get what he is selling find it a bit insulting at 1st when he said you cam is small you cant get a better pic out of it I bet that cam dont have this and that and this and that... I told him this has almost everything that your cam is selling except taking video.....later kinda become funny actually when he use the video thingy just to get a sale *sigh* :sweatsm::sweat:

I used to sell cameras a long time ago. The first thing to remember is that telling the customer that they made the wrong choice questions their ability to think and you shouldn't question that, if you want to sell them something else.

Lots of people know rubbish and it's easier to tell rumours than to do research.

yeah most of the time I just listen to them giving them very little thing and act as if I dunno anything from there you'll know if this guy is passionate on what he does or he just plain person just want to hit his quota.

I have encountered people in sale (oh my Dad was in sales and marketing also) and they'll ask you what do you want and need and from there they'll suggest or they'll give presentation to the product they are selling, they wont even say this is better brand the the others they will even say go try it the other brands and get a feel what suits you... There's even some so passionate they'll tell you everything about the product and even gives you pointer how to spot check and where to looks at etc etc now those are the sales people I will be giving my yes I'll buy that!:thumbsup::lovegrin:

My younger bro is in Singapore for training and he bring his D90 with Nikon 50mm f1.8 and tamron 17-35mm f2.8 he was poisioning me argh... we had a shoot out using my 14-54 and his tamron lens we both have same WB, ISO, Shutter we take same scene and his focal was at 17mmm mine was at 14mm we compare the pics (no pixel peep) just zooming the photo mine was a bit darker nikon was brigther but when image is zoom his was softer mine was more sharper

one thing is good is Nikon Af is very fast and it has a build in AF assist lamp which helps the lens to AF....

But his Nikkor 50mm f1.8 was superb hands down bokeh is good AF was very fast. When I tried using his cam i find my self lost as the buttons and orientations was totally different from Oly good is the D90 has this small mono LCD so you wont need to use the main LCD as your super control w/c in the long run will save some battery life.

Controls and a fast AF is sure a good point pic quality i think it has its own character that slightly differs from Oly... D90 has a AF motor build in the body so you could use any Nikon mount AF lens w/c is good this is up point of D90 over D5000.

Size wise it's not that big its tad bigger than E620.

will i jump??? i dont know hehehe I have invested some already on my Oly it's a same if I let them go that fast... My wife and daugther though was saying differently

as good OOC jpg?
art filters?
IBIS?
as compact, lightweight?
how much do u need to invest more to have similar setup to what he has now? are u willing to do so?
but i do have to admit D90 is a very good camera..haha
if u can understand & accept the limitations of what you have today, otherwise, it will be BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB...forever and ever..haha. my 2 cts

If i wanna do street shooting i do so with my e-620. If not then ill bring my eos300 if i wanna go film. Both cameras are so small and light it doesnt get in the way of my streets. I used to go 5D with 70-200 for streets but after some time i feel that thats not the photography im after. The IBIS allows me to push my manual lenses further and noise wise i dnt really care much as i think the 'noise' in the images reminds me of the lighting and ambience back then. I wouldnt even try to shoot 1600 on film as they are noticeably grainier, costlier and would prefer to keep them for 'special' occasions when i really want that look.

This sounds cheesy but yeah the Oly gives me another perspective looking at photography that would be very difficult for me to understand should i bring my 30D in all my outings. I never use my pop up flash on my 30D but now frequently use it on the E-620. The name of the game for me most times is compactness (which makes the camera useful as it makes bring it out more often).



I learn to be comfortable with myself, the camera and the surroundings and that is the philosophy i want to emulate in my images.

I'm happy with e620 rightnow just the AF of D90 trashed e620 was like we are in a drag race by the time my car moves his was halfway the runway.... but it's ok with my investment with Oly I'll keep it until i'm ready and technically decided to move to other format.

My bro he admits the IBIS is a big plus for my cam... he was trying to show me the speed of his AF as we did the shoot out indoor last night and my 14-54 was MK1 lols anyways I must admit D90 was very good cam and if you look at some extent is slightly differs from my cam... Oh the 1st thing he did with my cam is to listen to the shutter sound I dunno why he did that I never ask also.... but he said Oly sounded like canon

I cant influence him although I'm older than him by 8 yrs hahaha he was the artist in the family and he was in the photography for some time now so when it comes to that aspect he's more senior than me. But any rate he admits that oly procudes more natural colors and was indeed very sharp when we zoom in the cam oh BTW we both use Large jpeg we zoom in until to the last point the photo starts to pixelize his photo details is almost gone mie still recognizable.

Those who ight comment its regarding this test this is not those techncal thingy this is just me and my bro.

hmmm shall I get two bodies now??? D90 and E620?? hahaha:devil:....

But I really love his Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AIS wow that lens was superb the AF was fast and spot on and the details was crisp and the Bokeh was nice. Thanks to D90 in body motor my bro said he could use any Nikon AF lens this was the limitations of the D3K and D5K models.

The D90 is a good camera.

It does movie.
It handles higher ISO (above 800) better.
It AF better than the E620.

I wouldn't compare it with the E620 for it'll prob beat it on nearly every measurable specs. however knowing what you have used/have.

1. If you don't do RAW (I mean, you do have a life don't you:dunno::angel and use JPGs mainly, you'll miss Oly's OOC pics.

2. The D90 uses a Nikon DX sized sensor. Now just go and check the Nikon lens compatibility chart for DX camera ..... and while at it the prices as well. You have a 14-54. Try to get an equivalent lens of that calibre (and I mean quality and not specs - same specs lenses doesn't necessarily produce similar quality pics ...) and check for price.

3. Personally I prefer the E620 handling.

I did suggest an alternative to your E620 when u decided to move from the EPL-1 ....

May I suggest that the D90 is at best just a lateral movement ...... when all things are considered. Especially equivalent lenses. IMHO that Tamron doesn't come near to the Oly 14-54 in terms of optical quality ..... check here for what I consider equivalent or better.

I think he (assuming he first) is more of a street photographer... not all rangefinder shooters are street photographers... though most of them were photojournalist if you travel back in time.

My dad had some rangefinders when i was still young its a good street and indoor or basically all around easy to carry cam i love the focusing of those cams hehe half is focus and theitjer will.focus as you turn the focus ring.

I would think the best reason for owing a Nikon is the BETTER lenses. All of which is and will be optimized for their FX sensors.

Guess what happens when their DX glass is used on an FX sensor camera ?

Which better lenses? Those that cost thousands?

Would someone thinking about a D90 be thinking about lenses 6 times (or even 1.5 times) the cost of the body? Even someone considering a D300S has to think seriously about such purchases?
