E1 vs E5 skin tones comparison - Which do you think is from the E1?

Good poll.

From a slide film user, the left picture looks like a Fujifilm Astia 100F meant for portrait and softer on the look, while the right picture looks like a Fujifilm Velvia 100F, punchier on colour with higher contrast.

Does it mean that E1 (left) is a better portrait camera while E5 is a better landscape/outdoor camera?

Since this has reached the second page, I guess its time to reveal the truth......

So a lot of you lao jiao got it right...especially microcosm and drakon and others. But at this point in time, an equal amount of people also got it wrong...so its really 50/50 still. So all I can say is that it is not easy to tell which is E1 except to those who are truely expert. The left is indeed E1 and the right one is E5. Personally, I dun really know which of the two skin tone is better so I thought I would post it. But I think the E1 skin tone is more natural, because I dun think she is that yellow. But I am surprised that some people actually prefer the yellowish hue. In any case, thanks for participating. We can still take polls if people dun know the answer. Congrats to those who got it right!

So for me, if I can use the E1 to shoot people, I will try. Taking into consideration its limitations. The AF is significantly slower in a studio situation...very surprising....because that studio did not use focus light. But with the E5, the AF is virtually instantaneous. I just wished that I had taken more shots with the E1. Its a beautiful camera both to behold and to hold. And the images still startle me to this day.

If only Olympus would still make them E-1s, I would still use them.

Thing is, I shot with the E-1 for magazine spreads and it worked back then, it will work now, unless magazines started becoming bigger... so I don't see why not.

But since Olympus no longer makes them new, so I guess its better to just move on with what is current, the E-5.

I agree with you,hence I pick the right as E-1 :bsmilie: While the left seems more neutral, the right seems more pleasant hahahah

I am just thinking, can the E-5 emulate E-1 via in-camera controls? If yes, what is the point of this thread other than manufacturer's default preset?

I'm sure you can drop the saturation on the E-5 to E-1 levels.

Maybe, the point is that the E-3 required a lot of changes from the E-1 and you couldn't fix the soft/blurry look that the aggressive anti-aliasing filter gave the E-3 photos.
