for me

1) noise noise and noise
2) no viewfinder
3) no flash
4) the small little flash that match the E-P1 can't tilt and bounce
5) 40.5mm filters is hard to get
6) no AF assist lamp
7) E-P1 attracts too much attentions on the streets, i tried it today
8) heats up pretty fast
9) waiting for a battery to charge for 3hrs++ is simply a pain, when u can't wait to play with it the first time round
10) The 10th thing i hate about E-P1: She made me love her.

noise? Not noise free enuff for u? I looked at micrcosm's photos and they seem very good. I had the impression that in terms of sensor function, the ep1 sensoe beAts the e3, which beats the e510.

Actually can I check with you guys if the EP-1 tends to overheat a fair bit? Noticed in the EP-1 manual that I downloaded that there is a dedicated warning icon for when the camera gets too hot and will shut down temporarily to cool off.

Does that happen often, or none at all?

Ha ha ha... spreading the poison ya?

"spreading the poison?"... hmm, see who's talking?

Warning to others! This thread is DARN POISONOUS!!! :sweatsm:

A swivel LCD will increase the size, which may not be what most users want. After all, most compact users survived all these years well and dandy without a swivel LCD, right?
swivel LCD is to help me not to make any of those qi gong pose when I take photo. My qi gong skill not strong enough. :bsmilie:

maybe its the best in olympus. i am comparing it against other brands i've owned before.
Nonetheless, i find the noise in E-P1 not of the color-type, its the grainy sort. i.e. IMHO, it's not ugly.
I also find that although it is noisy than other brands, E-P1 retains kinda a little more details than other brands. IMHO, this is good too. I prefer details than having mass-destruction noise reducing algorithms.

this is just a personal opinion. i know most olympus users won't be bothered by this.

i am still enjoying the E-P1.

What caught my attention immediately when I first looked at the E-P1 during the Hands-On Session was how close the sensor was to the opening of the lens mount and how vunerable it looked to dust deposition without a mirror compared to DSLRs which have flipping mirrors in front of their sensors.

Even though Olympus' SSWF is quite effective, dust collecting on the sensor of theE-P1 could still be a problem especially the more sticky kind.

This prompted me to spend more money on dust cleaning equipment... luckily Cathay Photo is having a special offer on the Visible Dust Artic Butterfly. :(

If i buy it, the pancake lens would probably be stuck to the body all the time...so dust should be not be a problem...

Hi,
Can the pioneers feedback on the LCD screen usability under daylight and dim condition?
e.g. doing street shoot
- during day time scenario under open sky
- market lighting

Thanks

I would assume that it is not worse that what is already in the market right?

Not exactly true... only the twin lens kits are sold out. They were sold out immediately on the first day as they were all reserved. The zoom and pancake kits are still available as of this morning. ;)

Folks, it's best if you could hands-on the E-P1.

It's one of those things that specifications on paper simply do not describe the camera.

No VF - check
No flash - check
230k LCD - check
No swivel screen - check
'Dodgy' AF - erm... MYTH!

Use it in the real world, and the above four issues simply do not matter!

Hi Drakon, long time no see.

U mean to say that the above points do not really matter in the real world? ie. the absence of flash, no big deal, and no optical VD, no big deal?

I handled the camera today.
No VF: I thought it would be odd if I am turning and zooming in without a VF, but I was wrong. Just treat it like you would a PnS. The LX3 didn't have a VF either.
No flash: Doesn't matter to me since I don't use flash at all. Unless you meet with strong backlighting and you need to light up the front. In which case...use spot metering.
230k LCD: Not a problem at all. It's a decent lcd and it does what it should.
No swivel screen: Used to own the Canon G series; it's a bonus but it's not necessary.
'Dodgy' AF: It's certainly a myth.
