E-P1 and GF1 Color Compare

i don't think it's fair to post up such butchered shots for comparison... even though i am an oly user but to be fair, i'm sure the panny can be used better than this?

Agreed with you bro. I have been using the GF1 for a few weeks now, I don't think that is how GF1's color looks like.

Since is in IA mode nothing need to be change. That was the preset of the camera. As point and shot.I believe all who use the Gf 1 or LX3 know that.:D

A better comparison would be putting up side by side the same scene taken at the same time by both cameras and not bashing the GF1 with 1 picture alone!!!

This is shoot with IA mode from GF 1.Can tell wat is the different

GF1clarkequay_1017_6731s.jpg

seems like someone is using a gold color reflector highlighting the model... very unreal maybe the WB is not set correctly.

Ya, it seems like a golden reflector is used to create a "warm" effect.

I was told that the GF-1 works like a prosumer camera.
Don't know how true?? :dunno:

WB can be corrected but a moment once lost, can never be retrieved.

My purpose of posting is to says how easy to use it as a PNS camera without any problems with IA mode. Can also use P mode .;)

The WB is way way off.

I think the iA compensated for the gold reflector, so made the colours cooler than needed to be.

Correct the WB balance to 9000K and the picture should look ok.

That's Silkypix talk! ha ha ha...

just posting a super unscientific comparison of E-P1 vs GF-1
both in P mode, AWB. and jpeg
E-P1 with 17mm and GF-1 with 14-45mm kit.

looks like the color difference is mainly due to inaccurate WB from GF-1
RAW shooters dont have to worry/

I just bought a GF1. Took a pix of my brother and he has red / pink ear tips like caucasian.

I want to lower the pink / magenta hues, but will this make the colors more washed out than it already is?

Let me know if anyone has found a good solution to GF1 Jpeg. Thanks!

Custom WB (troublesome, but there you go)

Panny JPGs tend to drift to magenta; for the life of me, I don't know why.

You want to post an image and let's see exactly how much it has diverted to magenta and see if there is a quick fix. Also, what kind of photo editing software are you using? If you are on Photoshop, I can actually make an action file that might help you in your color correction (no promises). Post your image or a download link and I will see what I can do to help you.

Thanks to Microcosm and Dracon for the advice.

I've started to use the WB button to custom / decrease the magenta now - it works in reducing the Pink ear tips AND "punchy" pink pimples!
I'm trying out the next few days to finalize the optimal setting. I have a month to go before I embark on a trip - hehe. I realized the WB is very sensitive, cutting 3 steps Magenta will give "jaundice effect". A wrong customization may wreck my precious trip.

Also the Portrait mode is not so smart, it keeps both ISO and shutter speed too low and results in motion blur - just when we think the F1.7 lens is going to be great indoors. I switch to Shutter priority and set to 1/60 whenever indoors - and the iso bumps to 160 - it works for me.

Apart from magenta issues and low shutter speed in low light, I'm enjoying the camera in all other aspects.. :).
I'm liking M4/3, may contemplate to get an EPL1 for my wife... ^^
