E-M1 Mark II

With 1080HD still being the norm, 4k lacks support, if anything, it's just future proofing for now. 4K is basically just a megapixel race again. I'd rather have better quality videos than higher resolution videos

For many, that is why 4K video is important--shoot in 4K, down-sample to 1080p for higher quality, better color video.

down sample for higher quality, probably. But better color?

It is almost confirmed that the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II flagship micro four thirds mirrorless camera will be announced at Photokina 2016 in September. Aimed at professional sports photographers, Olympus E-M1 Mark II camera will be capable of recording 4K video and it “would DEFINATELY be much improved for that type of fast moving capture”.

In addition, Olympus displacement sensor resolution mode is one of the important selling point. According to the report coming out of 43Rumors, the upcoming Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II camera will be the first camera that supports handheld high-resolution shooting mode. So, if you have the E-M1 Mark II, you don’t need a tripod any more. That’s great!

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II Rumored Specs:

20MP
4K video recording
Handheld High Resolution mode
To be announced at Photokina 2016
New AF System (improved AF)
New viewfinder
No global shutter

By the way, a new Olympus 25mm f/1.2 Pro lens is expected to be announced along with Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II at Photokina 2016 in September.

Go & put those good to have features inside

Important one like better DR and low light and AF -> didn't really focus on

Relax la, still rumor, never say doesn't mean don't have. Just as people used to tell me "if you keep quiet, no one will think you're a mute". Besides, every company always improves their flagship in terms of quality, how much is another story. 25mm f1.2 PRO sounds interesting, but certainly not a lens for everyone

Available for pre-orders in US, US$1999!

OOOHHH.. 2K USD! = 3K SGD!. Time to buy a Sony A7R2

I was so sure I was going to get this but at 3k? Probably not. Add in the 12-100 and it will be 5k!

Sigh... I was in a dilemma several weeks before too.

Going overseas end of Nov, but MkII only coming out first week Dec and the pricing is so so high..

Ended up getting the EM1 with 12-40 at $1900/-. Can bring overseas and guess it suit my budget more too.

Totally with you Topaz. No doubt on the superb performance but the extra premium is very hard to justify. I am coming from EM5/EM1 user with plethora of lenses inclusive the older 4/3 SHG lenses. My money is better spent on the 25mm f1.2 lens than buying the new body.

Good glass is always a better investment. Body wise the EM1 Mk I is still plenty while the Mk II is really for those who crave or need the improved specs. It's priced as such to reflect this I guess.

It's more expensive than sony a7 ii. Guess I'll just stick to my old EM1 for the time being.

I agree with what Keith says, at the end of the day, it's the photographer that matters. I still use film cameras even though it's film, doesn't really a huge difference in getting my shots, just a little more difficult.

I was speaking with a friend yesterday and he presented some interesting thoughts about the pricing, one very important thing was. At the same price point, is there a camera that can do the same things as the mark II. As BHtan83 said, it's more expensive than a Sony A7 II, but with good lenses, it's not much faster nor is it lighter than a E-M1 Mark II combo.

Burst speed, only flagships from Canon and Nikon, i.e 1DX MKII and D5 can compete with the E-M1 Mark II. The PDAF sensors are now spread all over the sensor as compared to clustered in the center on the Mark 1.

Some of these points were the thoughts discussed yesterday. In a nutshell, the closest priced camera is the Nikon D500 which some people I've heard said "at that price, I'd rather buy the D500!", but again, it comes down to portability and specs. On paper, D500 doesn't have as many cross type sensors, it's heavier and bigger, Nikkor 14-24, 24-70, 70-200 are not cheap and I have the D3 with the trinity, they weight 6 kg, I also have the E-M1 Mark I with the trinity and they weight only 2 kg odd.

At the end of the day, the Mark II is a worthwhile camera if you want to purchase it. Despite the price, when I first touched it, I knew this is gonna replace my E-M1 Mark I body as my main while my Mark I is going to become my secondary. If it's too expensive for you, then to be honest, you probably shouldn't get it. With the E-M1, you get what you pay for. My own E-M1 survived a car accident, they're built to be splashproof, dustproof and freezeproof, everything about is top notch, and nothing topnotch will come at a price equivalent to buying milk.

One other point he pointed out was, when the XT-2 came out, not many, if any, complained about the increased in price

My early morning 2 cents worth

Price though on the hearts of many (obviously as humans with limited resources lol) should not overshadow the full discussion of a camera.

For Matthew and his needs , he can justify a EM1 Mk 2, for me maybe an E-P5 or EM1 Mk 1 with a 42.5/1.2 is enough to make me happy hence in that sense hence there's not too much to complain.

There's always one for every budget from the EPM to EPL to EP to EM 10 to EM1.

%$^#@^% octopus price it like that, M43 sensor same pricng level as FF

For me, A7ii will be the choice especially now they have the 24-70 f2.8 zoom lens available.

If Sony have the equivalent APSC zoom lens, I'll get the A6500 instead.

You are comparing a Oly flagship with the Sony entry FF. Haha

Well, will buy the entry level FF cause of the sensor size, better DR and low light performances - definitely not the octopus.
