E-620 vs E-PL2 which AF is faster?

Guys, thanks for your inputs. I took the plunge and got the.. E-P3! Looks like I am going all the way m4/3 now.

Wow, this is as close as I want things to be. I wanted to try the fastest CDAF on 300mm and blew my budget as a result. The reason I chose it is due to its newness and latest sensor plus fastest CDAF. Please tell me I made a good choice.. I wanted to start bird-shooting ASAP! This PEN is a beauty, it is really fast on the kit lens AND its body is not that small to make the 300mm awkward too.

LOL, I wanted to spend $500 and now I spent two times of it. But it is really interesting to see how fast is the 300mm on E-P3. I still lack an adapter, but meanwhile I am having a good time with the kit lens :))

I didn't know there's an outing, would love to come! Has anybody tried this combination?? Not much info from the net..

This is how it would look on EP3.

According to Olympus, this lens is CDAF optimized. So I think the AF should be less than 1 sec

Wow, u really got poisoned from a few threads...u can't go too wrong with latest camera to start with;)

Although you might be a little disappointed to find that though the 70-300 is CDAF capable, but on EP3 it's still won't be blazing fast, only the new lenses 14-42mk2R, 40-150mk2R, 12/2, 45/1.8 will be fast, the rest of m43 still quite fast, 43 (CDAF, e.g. 70-300) lenses not so fast, 43 (PDAF, e.g ZD 50/2) bloody slow...so by ranking, it's not the slowest, but it won't be that fast, like ard 1 sec to AF...might still be ok for bird shooting
someone selling MA-1 on B&S here, since it's metal as mentioned by agrivar, it will be better option than mmf2.

Good news is the ZD 70-300 is:
- Also a macro lens too
- Capable lens in good light

So try it first, if you really dun like, there are few other long tele options:
- Oly m43 75-300, f4.8-6.7 expensive lens like $1000...much faster AF, smaller, lighter, but at this price not really worthy for me especially for it's slowness (light capturing).
- Pana 100-300, f4-5,6 might be a better option for birding, faster AF than ZD 70-300. I don't do much birding, i use it for zoo mainly. Bought for 2 months, haven't really put it to real test. This lens will cost about 800 brand new.

I have both Oly 70-300 & Pana 100-300, and here's a flickr set of the 70-300 and 100-300 , all using Pen, mainly E-PL1 / E-P3...My preference would be the Pana for the faster AF and lighter, also a good performer in good light, at 300mm, it seems slightly sharper than the 70-300.

Not sure that helps a lot, but you do have options if you find the 70-300 is lacking.

Thanks Wong and guys. There had been some difficulties getting a used MMF-2, no one seems to be selling it!

In a twist of events, I found a nice deal for a E-620 body. Many thanks to him, I finally got the tele lens up and running.

There is fair bit of AF hunting even in not-so-low light. But in bright open, focus speed even at 300mm end is good. I feel my hands are too shaky as well.

Overall I feel good with this setup. And the smaller form factor of E-620 is great, it feels all most as light as the E-P3 and it has so much more buttons to access. I still hope I can get the adapter one day to do some comparisons, in terms of AF and image quality.
