E-5 Query

This should make all of you feel a bit better about the deals on offer in Singapore.

Olympus have NOT made any special offers in the UK (or Europe as far as I know). When I bought mine in November, I was offered a free SD (8Gb) SanDisc card and a leather camera bag (which was too small to fit anything other than the camera body and a short lens seperated from the body:o) from the retailer. I did try and push Olympus into making their own offer at launch but this did not work:cry:. I know that there was a great shortage of E5 cameras at the time of first launch with a great demand for them. I guess that had something to do with it.

If you do go ahead and buy one, I am pretty sure you will not be disappointed. BTW, retail price in the UK was £1499 for the body. How does that compare?

That's like 2988 sgd! Well Peter, don't give up, keep pushing Olympus UK :bsmilie: Personally, I'd be happy for another HLD4 on the E-5 if I do get 1 in a couple of years, but that's just me of course ;)

Mscolors quoted me with the price rebated, tempting me... u juz need to show them u own an e-3.. :) no warranty card or anything like tat

well the thing is .. what about other 4/3 users who don't have an E3 then, say the 4/500 series? Worst what if no warranty card like misplaced or something like that? LL buy rrp is it? :bsmilie:

Thanks for your reply spider:).
Funnily enough, it was the HLD4 that I suggested bundling with the E5. That would probably be the cheapest offer they could make that all potential E5 users would appreciate. I have left my HLD4 on the E3 (backup camera) as there is a shortage of the new batteries in Europe at present.

By right, during the promotional period, is existing E system users, regardless of model, now I can't say the same since the official promotion period is over and shops are more or less free to say what they want to

I agree, but one problem was that the HLD4 kinda made the battery life span of the E-3 crappy so that's probably one reason why it wasn't bundled, not 100% sure why but whatever the reason is, its a bit sad on my end but well, its their choice at the end of the day

I am at courts tampines now and they say no such promotion for free battery. I even pressed him to check and really no have such thing. The salesman is very helpful to even call the orchard outlet on the loudspeaker and let me hear the conversation between them.

I bought mine at HN Funan on Dec 30. Price at 2298 + original batteries(1 x B5, 2xB3) + 1 original and 1 3rd party charger + Tripod + 3 cards (2x 8gb SD(kingston), 1 x 8gb CF(Sandisk). Asked for A*** but no longer working there so was served by another friendly staff. If you are good at bargaining, probably will get more freebies :). Did not show my warranty card.

This reminds me of when I bought my first SLR camera in Singapore. The Asahi Pentax Spotmatic in 1967. I was down at Raffles in the market there. I ended up letting two stall holders argue with each other about who would offer the best price. I eventually came away with the camera and at least two people were happy:).

Anyway just an update. Went to orchard courts to confirm on the promo and was told the free battery only applies to pen and their tough series. Same promo price, applies for both E and non E users.

Another update. Harvey Norman Funan $2298 with free 2 BLM1 and 2 cards of your choice either 2 sd or 2 cf. Look for Tommy. A young chap like me. :bsmilie: Warranty card is a must though unfortunately. I bought it. They offered a 3rd party charger for the BLM1 as well if you want it free.
