Hi Dynax7 owners,

just a short question about the autofocus full auto mode.

My Dynax 7 always start hunting if i use this full-auto AF-mode with some landscape scene where most of the upper image part is filled with bright blue sky. Seems like the camera CPU cannot decide for one of the 9 AF sensors as soon as the upper sensor is located in a bright image region... As soon as I select any of these sensors manually the autofocus works without problem for the same picture. This problem is independent from the choosen lens (24-105, 24-70/2.8, 80-200/2.8) and -- very strange -- does not appear on the Dynax 60! I supposed the autofocus to be the same in these two cameras  )

Is this a bug of my specific Dynax7 (2-3 years old) or is this a general Dynax7 problem? Is there something like a firmware update I missed? The camera has already been updated one time for this lausy VC7-vertical-grip bug (memory D3 erased whenever the VC7 was switched from external to internal power supply)
In fact in my opinion the full-auto AF on this camera is quite useless -- i never got satisfactory results with it. I always had to switch to the center cross AF for moving objekts and lock on the desired AF sensors for landscape shots...

your opinion?

Hi,

I've never used wide area focus for any of my shots. You cannot be sure which sensor is active and where it focus.

It's always better to dictate the focus of the the camera rather than letting it decide for you.

Cheers!

I used Wide AF with Continuous AF a few times, pretty good, just make sure the subject is big enough in the frame or else the camera may choose a point to focus .. :bsmilie:

Just go to the service centre to check...
