Well, said.

Reliablity is important in mail order. I think it's all about time and cost. I mean if it's gonna cost more and it's gonna take the amount of time to wait, I would rather oder from the dealer or from Minolta showroom. I was looking at the accessories for Minolta, it's quite hard to get from here. Like the Holding Strap HS-1, it's not available here. The cost of ordering from overseas, the postal already cost of the it! Not worth the effort.

You are right about the waiting time and such. Anyway, by mail order, waiting time isn't long, usually 4-8 weeks or so. However, based on my experience of ordering from Minolta via another shop (I shan't name it, but its 1 of our favourite shops), it took months for Minolta to ship them over. I know its months because there was another order for the same item and the shop has been waiting for the shipment for 2 months or so. In the end, I just asked my friend from US to mail order and pass it to me when he returns. It was even faster this way!

Keep your eyes peeled for CSers or friends who are travelling to US or Hongkong, if you want to get your 'not found in Singapore' stuff. I was told that buying items in Japan is not worth it even if it may be cheaper because their warranty is not international. Most other country's warranty are international.

Actually I have an experience to share..... I got so pissed off that I could not find the VC-7 I decided to send a polite email to Minolta Singapore. I just mentioned that I could not find it after looking through all the pro shops in Singapore. And I said I really wanted to have it. They promptly replied my email and gave me an excel file with all the shops in S'pore that stocked their stuff. Called about a dozen and stil no VC-7. Called the lady in charge of this directly and told her so. She said ok, do I want to place an order from Japan. I said SURE! And I got the stuff from AP in 6 weeks. In fact she told me that they do stock orders every 2nd week of the month, so if u catch the order train before that, u'll get your stuff in 4 weeks flat. I was pretty impressed with their efficiency and their handling of my request. Afterall I'm no power user nor pro... just a novice learning my way around the Dynax 7.

Maybe u can try Minolta Singapore for the HS-1? It's the customer feedback form on their webby I think that I tried. I am thinking of getting one HS-1 as well but not this year.... very broke already buying lens, VC-7 and flash....... :D

TME: Wah! That's an invaluable lesson you've just shared. Could you pm me the no. of the lady in charge and whatever relevant contact info to Minolta Singapore so that in the future it wouldn't be such a headache to get Minolta stuff.

Thanks for sharing.

I suspect if we keep doing that, then the service might drop. Suggest you go through your fav shop to order through Minolta instead. Also I believe the price will be higher when you order through Minolta, as they cannot undercut the shops.

Good idea. I'll keep that in mind.

NO I did not buy from Minolta directly! What happen was when Minolta Singapore ordered the stuff, they sent it to Alan Photo. I think they are the primary stockists for Minolta stuff in Singapore. So they also bo pian..... I dun think the prices are higher lor.... I got the VC-7 at $240 without GST. Maybe your bargaining skills better or u know the chaps at AP better, u can get at $235 lor......

Also I dun think the service will drop. But I think rather it will signal to Minolta Singapore that there is a strong and viable business to be done with a group of hardcore Minolta fans with money to splash..... look! U people are complaining cannot find G lens, cannot find SSM lens..... all the big ticket item....... I only looking for vertical control grip..... :blah:

Yup, I can agree on that. I was kinda of desperate for the VC-7, and the Minolta showroom was very helpful in selling the VC-7 to me as someone didn't pick it up after ordering it. They tried to call quite a number of dealers, but all no stock of VC-7. Sometimes, I find it rather inconvienence lah. I mean why is it so hard to spend money on Minolta products? Everytime, got to give 1 month allowance before I buy?

I think might as well they setup an internet web service for us to order it. It's a win-win situation, they don't have to stock up and at the same time we customers are getting what we want.

I don't think SSM lenses are officially out yet, don't seems to find anyone using it.

They rich mah.. me poor man leh.

China and Japan are already using it? Shit man, how about the rest of the world? Singaporeans are not exactly patient people, I mean faith in Minolta will die off if they are not constantly surprising us with new innovation. I mean constant update of technology is what assuring the die hard fans from changing brands. We want more! :sweatsm:

S'pore is not exactly a big market is it? Same for anything from plasma TV to cars to clothing...... we are always slower cos we dun have the critical mass to make us important in terms of revenue for the multinational brands...... so be patient........ :p
