hi peeps,

read de reviews and done my hw....and now im thinkin of buyin a 2nd hand dynax5 as my first slr......reason being one of the most affordable slr wif most features in its class.......need advice from experienced minolta users here...in terms of lenses used...etc...etc

what do you want to shoot?

Like ckiang quoted on another thread " so wat if they got lot of lenses? you want to buy all ' ??

It would be difficult to get a 2nd hand dynax 5.a brand new set comes with 2 lens.28-80 & 75-300.these 2 lens is enough to launch you into photography.if you have any qns, email me andy.lee@minolta.com.sg

May i know what is the price of a Dynax 5 body alone? Think my 700si is getting a lil screwed so trying to get a backup body... The Dynax 7 is way off my budget so i guess have to downgrade...

i'm not sure of the price that is selling outside.but by comparing Dynax 5 & 700si.i still think that 700si is better.i'm using 700si for many years, still giving me wonderful pics.i prefer to spend more for my lens.if you wanna buy the Dynax 5,i would suggest that you buy the batt pack as well.it gives more grip, balance & it uses normal AA batt.there is no vertical release for the Dynax 5 batt pack.

I jus sold e whole Dynax 5 kit + 3600HS + 7 filters+ MC-4 2xTeleconverter ($700)to my friend.Cos need money to buy camera backpack and tripod with ballhead.

then u got no camera already? :D

Hiee....

Dynax 5 is a great camera and surely will kick you off taking great shots and its really a "big in features" camera to start with + still allow full manual to learn!!!!!.......

The kit lenses are really good for a start and see for yourself the photos you take and decide if you need higher end lenses....in the future......

i would like to have one my self......as it has better function than my 404si......

Regards,
me

Dynax 5 is really packed with lots of feature considering the cost and weight.
Had been using it for a year, although some limitation, no regret so far.
The two lens that came with it served 95% of my requirements. ie photography course, travel etc. Plus point: the camera is light, dun have to lug around a very heavy tripod while travelling.

hi, just to share.

3 weeks ago, i bought a minolta dynax 5 QD with the 28-80mm and 75-300mm lenses package at S$800. Think the prices were as advertised by minolta.

recenrtly, someone told me that a new dynax 5 with the 28-80mm lens cost S$450. With the 75-300mm lens thrown it, the package costs S$660. i checked with cathay photo at peninsula and was told the dynax 5 and 2 lenses package costs S$700, and that the 70-300mm lens costs S$440. :dunno:

anyway, i requested for an e-quotation from cathay photo. this afternoon, i received their quote - S$610 for the dynax 5 plus 28-80mm and 75-300mm lenses. :what:
the 70-300mm lens costs S$410.

any idea why the disparity in prices within 3 weeks??

anyway, i am quite happy with the camera. it is light and has many more features as compared to my old dynax 5xi.

cheers

don't think any further... BUY BUY BUY!!!! :D

Its a great camera, has tons of features for its price namely depth of field, spot metering, film tip can be left out on rewind, etc etc. there's a reason why it was voted top camera of the year by mags and european don't know what for 2 yrs I think. personally I like the feel of it, nice and compact and light yet chock full of features.

where to buy camera is the question. some shop is expensive than another.

remember seeing one 2nd hand dynax 5 for sale at alex photo couple of weeks back, he quoted 300.

I agree with the rest. Even though I mostly use the 7Hi now, I still adore my Dynax 5. I'll advise you to stick to the kit lenses if you can't buy the body alone, or can't find someone to sell them to. But if you can, decide on what kind of photography you enjoy doing (portraits, macro, landscape, street...), and get the right lens for that job. I'm personally eyeing the 24-85 or 24-105 lenses. :) Perhaps we can even have another Minolta gathering (I missed both!) and we can all exchange lenses/camera bodies to try!

I have no complaints about the body, but lenses that come bundled with cameras are in general, not that great. They contain plastic elements, if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, I was pretty happy with my photos, until I saw the ones taken by a 'pro' manual camera user during an office event. His photos were sharper and the colours richer, even though I got some better shots than him! But don't worry, Isomers, stick to what you can afford for now, and don't forget that these light-weight lenses are good for travelling! ;)

I have been using M42 screw mount cameras all the time so far. Pardon my newbie question coz I have decided to try out AF cameras as I have finally got a job.
I am considering a Dynax 5 due to my tight budget. Also considering the Nikon F80 or maybe a similar Canon camera. Which of these cameras offers cheaper prime lenses? I think I don't mind having no zoom lens as I am used to it so far. And why do modern AF lens don't seem to be able to focus manually on the lens barrel? I like the features of the Dynax 5 though. Is the Nikon F80 another class above it?

Are they compatible with M42 mounts using adapters? I think nikon ones require a special adapter with a correction lens in it. I prefer to pay more for the lens than the body as long as the body is decent and reliable. Thanks!

Hi there,

I am a Minolta user. Used the Dynax 5, X-300 and am currently using the 7000AF (I like the feel of the 7000AF best). Anyway, I have a cousin who is filthy rich and he's used all three systems. Plus, he has a collection of ALL of Minolta's Prime Lens. His opinion was that Minolta's lens are the best in the industry. Some are even comparable to Leica lens. Hard to believe, but I really do not doubt him. He's a very keen photograher who has all three systems with no particular favourite brand. He does prefer Nikon's Body, which in his opinion has the best mechanisms.

You might want to chew on this but I think its safe to say that the Dynax 5 is one of the best valued camera for a beginner/ intermediate user. I sold my set for $1000. This included the camera, the two kit lens, a 50mm 1.7, and a 35-70 3.5, and a sigma flash, tripod and 10 filters!

Used the money to finance the purchase of my 7i. I am still uing the 7000AF tho...

Cheers;)

Thanks for the replies!

I am not considering DSLR. But I am torn between either a Nikon F80 or the cheaper Minolta Dynax 5. What is the price of the Minolta Dynax body and a basic zoom lens? How do the two (nikon f80/dynax 5) compare? One thing I like about the Minolta is that the adapter for M42 screw is much cheaper, so does that mean I can use back my M42 screw mount lens? That would be a bonus.

And I notice lens nowadays(the kit ones) do not come with manual focussing on the lens barrel. How does one actually manually focus?

Hi isomer007

Thanks for ur concern.I still hav Dynax 7 and sigma 17-35 f2.8/4 but cant shoot much with wideangle alone. Still saving money for minolta new SSM 'D' lenses. U noe wat i mean.

Me & My Minolta.
