Dust on Sensor (New 40D User)

Guys side track a bit ... few months back my 40D had about 4 bright spots during long exposure and now it had about 10. The advice I reckon would be to send in for servicing but does the warranty cover these spots.
Can ask change for new camera or not?

i guess they will just remap the senor for you thats all. Expect them to replace the sensor. wait long long:)

Just went to CSC for CMOS cleaning. Since I just bought my camera and told them about the grey spot, they did the cleaning free for me. Now spotless.

 Canon

Really? Never heard of this before...What would shutter unit lube be doing on the sensor?

Beats me. I suppose when the mirror flips, some of the lube gets onto the sensor. Found such "stuff" on my 40D when I bought it. Not a lot, just 2-3 specks.

Like many of you I've noticed dust, hair, and other debris that made its way into the viewfinder of my 5D and it's true that the 5D is more prone to this than my other body, the 20D. I've also been asked how I clean mine and in order to avoid repeating my story over and over, I've published a post on the subject of Focus Screen and Sensor Cleaning.

Hope you find it useful. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Good stuff Jan.....

I also normally hold the camera facing down when I change lens. This reduces the chance of dust falling down into the camera.

haha.. this reminds me of my panic when I found a strange curve dark line across all my photos when I was on Tour in China. I change lens, its still there. Den later back at the hotel room, I notice a strand of hair across the sensor of my 40D. I used a toothpick to carefully pick it out. I had hard time touching up those photos shot for the day.

Back to the topic, Normally I just blow my sensor to remove dust. So far had not done any servicing yet. a few spot is very easy to touchup using photoshop healing tool. normally I just click on the spot and its gone.

I highly doubt Canon would lube their shutter unit with lubricant that flows excessively. If it were, that would be a serious problem indeed.
