i take what kevin said to mean:
(a) don't blow with your mouth
(b) don't anyhow poke the thing inside the camera and blow
(c) press the blower a few times to clean it first so u don't blow additional dust inside
(d) don't do anything stupid if u don't know how

for a start, just get a good blower. don't get conned by all the funny brushes and stuff ;) or look ard for the official pentax cleaning tool - the O-ICK 1.

There is quite a bit of leeway with regards to dust, so don't worry so much about it.

1st of all change lenses in a manner which avoids getting dust into the camera - try to point your camera downwards when changing lenses, and of course avoid changing lenses in dusty or windy places.

Set your camera so that it will do a sensor cleaning everytime you switch in on. The self cleaning function of the recent Pentax cameras are pretty good!

Even if there is dust on the sensor, it is usually not visible unless you shoot at very high apertures.

Even if it is visible in some shots, it usually can be cloned away easily

Most dust can be cleared with some blowing with the mirror up. Its ok to do your own blowing - just make sure that your blower is clean, and that you are doing it in a very clean place.

If the dust is stuck on the sensor, you can try cleaning it yourself with special swabs. I have never done this before, but have heard that its a pretty straightforward process. If you are not confident, you can bring it to Kevin for help.

Have habit of cleaning your lenses, especially the rear element and lens mount, as well as the mount of the camera - it can get surprisingly dirty. These are places where dust and dirt accumulate.

I change lenses A LOT, and have had to deal with dust appearing on my sensor from time to time. Its really no big deal and can be rectified. The sensor is not so fragile that dust cannot be cleaned off it easily.

Wet cleaning is actually quite straightforward as well but it helps to read up and understand properly before attempting.

We are actually not cleaning the sensor directly, but the AA filter, which is a rather solid piece of glass :)

thanks guys, will get a rocket blower and try if it really works!
anyway, where can i get a rocket blower?

hi all,
today i went to buy a rocket blower and went home to try blowing the dust out.
first chose the mirror up function and then tilt my camera where the place you put the lens is facing the ground.
and then begin giving it a few blows, but however when i tried taking photos, the small little dot is still there.

why is that so? :(

u mean u can see the dots in your viewfinder? or u can see the dots in your photo?

It might be the wind from the blower did not "hit" the dust or the dust is too stubborn. Keep blowing!

Happen to me too, when i get the blower from SLRR, Ray help me to blow away the 2 dust spot that i can't blow away.

hi there,
is on my photo.

Could be welded dust - wet dust spots.

Those type are more stubborn.

If they're not too obvious, just clone them off. If its serious, then u do have to bring it down to emjay.

I'm not sure how comfortable u are with diy wet cleaning so i wont go there.

If blow blow blow still can't get rid of the dust, then just use the Lenspen sensor cleaner (less than $20 from Cathay photo, SLR_R etc) Will sure fix the problem.

Once you try it, you will realise just how easy it is to fix dust issues....

from my experience, dun use blower on mirror/sensor. It will just blow dust into the viewfinder. Dust is everywhere, high risk will kana viewfinder. Just send in for professional to clean mirror/sensor for you.

ok lah :) matter of preference. whatever works for u. i can't do that cos i can't take leave to go down to emjay every time i get a dust spot. so i find it easier to find out how to do it properly on my own.

basic sensor cleaning with a blower is a very straightforward thing.

the idea is not to get it "good as new", but to get the dust particles off the sensor so it doesn't affect image quality and make your workflow a living nightmare by having to manually clone off every single dust spot in every single picture.

dust in the VF does not affect IQ. it irritates the hell out of some people, true, but it doesn't affect IQ. so its something i will happily live with.

in fact, wet-cleaning with sensor swabs and liquid is also quite straightforward if u know how to do it. someone had already suggested the sensor-cleaning version of the lens-pen and i've used sensor cleaning swabs, as well as other DIY methods before.

i just didn't want to make it sound too easy, in case some newbies take unnecessary risks and cause more problems to their cameras.

HEHEHEH.
thanks guys.
i managed to cleared of the dust spots, or at least i think i did.
no spot on my photos alr.

THANKYOU!!! :D

thats good :) shall we discuss wet cleaning next?

purely theoretical discussion of course, with disclaimer that you shouldn't try if u're not confident ;)

sure why not?
although i blowed my camera, i see if i were to shoot at f32 or arnd there, there will still be dusts spot.
is that common?

You don't need to worry about f32 because you will almost never need to shoot at f32. If you cannot see it at, say f11-16 then you can safely ignore it.
