yes much faster. But no one mentioned the shutter slap is much LOUDER than the 10D also!! They say because its a pro series type shutter. But 1D MKII don sound like that leh.... Think its asa loud as the 300D if not louder...anyone can support this statement :D

Got.. I mentioned it was significantly louder in this thread..

But so far I haven't encountered hang problems..

Well I've said this before. I will not sell my 10D for a 20D. This is due to the fact that my 10D is 8 months old. Changing to 20D would mean a great loss and I would rather spend that money on a good lens. If I were to change camera then it would be for an upgrade reason. That means from 10D to 1D MK2 or even a 1Ds. Changing to a pro body will be my next target. Maybe next bonus. But for now my 10D is good enough to fulfill my needs. However if tomorrow I strike Toto then I'll buy it as a backup body and a 1Ds without blinking an eyelid.

For example a series of shots using burst fire featuring a 2 second long ice skating jump.

uh, curious. who can do a 2 second jump in local iceskating? the rinks here aren't that big, and neither can skaters stay airborne that long either...

I am just stating an example why the 20D larger buffer and faster rate of fire would justify an 'upgrade' from a 10D. Instead of getting an example of 6 frames, the photographer could get 10 instead. The difference of those 4 shots could mean alot at a specific split second action. To a maximum of 9 frame buffer on the 10D vs 23 on the 20D.

And yes, I have a friend who is local and does ice skating. But she dosen't skate locally because she's not based here.

I thought 10D is actually upper level to 20D in term of physical built.
Heavier + Bigger + softer( lesser bounced mirror) just like 300D.

Just like 1D mk II is not really better than 1Ds ... I mean 1D in term of image quality.

Of course, I like 5fps + faster focus + 23 images buffer + 8 mega pixel + better ISO in term of iso1600(20D) = iso400(10D). Good for sport/fashion shooting.

Maybe wait till 1Ds mk ii came out, I might get the 1D mk ii(price might drop a bit more). Maybe ....

Actually 20D shutter slap louder than 300D! Sound like cheapo camera. Smaller grip for my hand. I might create a lot of scratches on the 20D grip during the Canon-pro event due to the same reason. But all this is minor cons only. ;p

Thousand apologies for the crude lang, just a harmless joke. :embrass:
Come back to SG soon, lotssa birdies! Look at my 2nd gallery. :D

First of all, Mattlock, let me make it clear - I'm NOT reprimanding anyone if you mean by that I am judging or scolding anyone. If someone wants to sell off their 10D for less than $1000 that's their decision and not mine. The equipment belongs to them and individuals can sell it at whatever price thay want, for their own personal reasons.

Like to echo a point mentioned by another CS in this discussion, someone I know who is a professional uses only a D100 and even has a few sigma lenses in his stable and still manages to produce quality work that his customers are willing to pay thousands of dollars for.

My thread was simply that it was sad to see people willing to sell off their 10D's at such a low price point (so close to a used 300D)

and

- it is a great time to pick up a used 10D if you want one
- 20D likely to be a good replacement for all the reasons stated
- for me personally not worth the extra $1400 (assuming I have to sell mine for $1500 and have to pay $2900 for a 20D body

if money was like water for me perhaps I would sell off my 10D abd buy it buy IMHO (which means a personal opinion and not anyone else's) its not worth a $1400 difference. Perhaps a $600-$700 difference I would consider doing this.

HAPPY SHOOTING fellow CS members !

With the two new EF-S lenses introduced by Canon, I think it's worth the upgrade from a 10D to 20D. Read from the MTF's that the image quality is very good. But that's just from the labs... not sure the real thing.

Moreover, the noise level in 20D is significantly lower than 10D.

+ other host of reasons....

Depends on individuals I suppose. At the end of the day, photography is also about $$$. If you've got the cash, whoever says it's not worth to upgrade from 10D to 20D? 20D is definitely better than the 10D. But each one has to work out his or her own budget and style of shooting. Otherwise, you can go on and on self-justifying yourself why you should not get the 20D. It's all about $$$. It's like asking why should you get the 10D in the first place when a D60 is also 6MP? Does that help you take better pics?

does she happen to be based in the UK now? i heard of one such skater... but i can't recall the name :D

and yes, i do understand what you mean, though i find a 2 second airborne period a bit overexaggerated. i think freefallers have a longer airborne time of course :D
