Hi there to the pros...

I'm essentially looking for a camera which is small like a pns camera but i have the option of changing lens so that i can take macro photography (photos of gemstones)?

Please advice :)

Thanks!

sony nex 3 / 5? given the adapters available, you should be able to find a macro lens to use with it
panasonic GF1? not sure if there are any macro lens available

Why can't you shoot macros with a good PnS, like a G11/G12 or a Sony HX1? All of them have macro capabilities.

If size is a concern to you, Go for Prosumer PnS like Canon G11, Panasonic LX3 and attach raynox adapter lens to it. Good results.

DSLR quality, will come from DSLR and EVIL cameras only. And if doing macro, you will end up with quite a big package even with EVIL cameras (lens will be much longer than PnS). No way you can get the portability of a PnS.

Cannot have the cake and eat it la. Something's got to give.

Hi All for your inputs...

I'm now torn btwn the lx3 and the gf1...lol...arghhh...

just wondering your inputs on the Ricoh's GRIII, and thoughts? I've seen shots taken and its really impressive

hi daredevil, thanks for your input...

for gemstone pix...i'll mount it on a tripod...and lightbox...hence i reckon i'll do ok with the lens...i'm currently using a 400D and i'm tired looking thru the viewfinder...

on the side...do u know how much a 400D can fetch now? good condition, always in dry cabinet...its abt 2-3yrs old? i think i only shot around 500+pix lol

If the problem is that you are tired bending all over to look through the viewfinder, wouldn't it be easier if you get a new body with Liveview? Stay with a Canon and you can keep all your current lenses and setups. Or move to a sony alpha or NEX or m4/3 or even a Nikon D5000. You will be doing MF anyway, for macro.

Many thanks for all your valuable inputs!

:) i've decided to move unto the not so bulky GF1 :)

many thanks again!
