DSLR D90 Kit with AF-S 18-105mm VR

550D is smaller than the D90. When I try both cameras I prefer the D90 size compared to 550D size as D90 is easier for my hands to hold, being larger. But some of my female friends complain the D90 size is too heavy and prefer 550D size (similar to D5000/D3000 size). That's another area to consider.

i think mid range camera for canon are models starting with 2 digit numbers.
eg 40D, 50D,
but if i'm not wrong 50D isnt a good buy at all.
yup, 7D might be an upper range camera just like nikon D300s.

Whether they put 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 digit numbers, it is just Canon or Nikon marketing strategies because they are competing each other.

So it doesn't mean that Canon 2 digit number is always higher class than Nikon 4 digit number, and vice versa.

but its gonna get phased out soon right?

D90 over 550D? :dunno:

Dun have any brand preference before i got my D90 (1mth ago).
Anyway, only know how to use PnS camera beforehand.

Spend close to 1mths.. reading review and checking with frens.
Looking at photos taken with both camera from magazine taken by pro.
Be it review or frens.. majority go with D90.

Finally, went down to have a feel of both camera.
Personally for me, D90 win hand-down. So I took the plunge ><

thanks guys. i went to hoot D90 kit liao. so loving it!

if you want dslr, size shouldn't take into consideration. smaller size harder to grip and balance esp when u bought better lens (heavier) in the future.

D90 worth buying. kit len is not sufficient, need to invest on better & dif lens for dif kind of pics.

im a canon user. D90 over 550D. Better built overall and body is slightly bigger than 550D if you like better grip. The shutter also sounds better than the 550D...sounds like the 7D type.

The 550D 18mp over D90 is useful if you plan to crop alot or to print in large format. For video 550D wins D90. Good buy.

D90 is a great piece! Love the shuttle sound compare to canon, other then their higher ends model, Nikon sounds more natural whereas canon sound more digital..haha..

Natural sound vs Digital sound :bsmilie:

LOL

I am a bit surprised that D90 did not have or need any firmware upgrade since her launch.

Does that mean her firmware program was perfect and even better than the top end DSLR (e.g D3, EOS-1D etc,,,) which had firmware upgrades ? Is that possible ?

D90 =mid range camera
550D=entry range camera

Is 7D an upper range camera ?

Thanks !

;)

I thought D90 did get one firmware update?

Sorry, but I disagree with the 2nd part of your statement. The kit lens should be ultilised until you feel tt it is limiting you. Like for example, not wide enough or you need a constant aperture. There are people who still use their kit lens to shoot landscapes.

But of course, once you know what you want to achieve in your shots or what type of photography you are interested in, then t's time to take the plunge to get the lenes required. But of course, a reasonable amount of research must be done first. :);)

I agree with u bro, D90 18-105 kit lens gives a very nice starting range to try out and learn already compared to the more common 18-55 range offered on other camera kits like D5000 or D3000

Then again...coming from film days last time, telephoto is a darn luxury manzz. If i could have started out with a 18-200, why not? lol ;p

Now can! The current kit 2 is 18-200 vr II IIRC. If I'm wrong then it's 18-200 vr. Haha.

I feel that the 18-200 kit not so worth it because the the additional 1k can be used to buy prime like 50mm or the 85mm. 18-105kit is a good starter for newbies to try around and move on to other lenses

hi guys, does anyone know how much d90 kit is selling at comex? I mean price after discount not the price on the price list. thank you.

IT shows' prices not really discounted. Only difference is tt you get more freebies which you will find useless and redundant after a while.

A friend once told me tt the prices will be about the same if not the same as they get stock from the electrical megastores like HN, Best etc. Don't know how true is tt

Quite true. Went there yesterday and the dry cabinet was fully redeemed. Now they give you additional 8GB SD card. Felt so paiseh to ask Jeff there so much question.

Right now there are no firmware updates for the D90.
And won't be, as D90 would be replaced by D7000 soon.

Hmmm...

BTW I cannot draw the correlation between firmware releases and the quality of a camera model. :dunno:
