Drama I Miss You

The prizes range from merit to platinum so a prize does not necessarily mean a platinum. Then again, you might have gotten one.

The major issue with your short film is a lack of closeups. There is really not much CUs to show the emotions of the gal. To engage your audience, you really need a wider variety of shots and the lack of closeups does not help things. Go for big closeups and closeups for the next film.

The lighting can also be very much improved and I would rec that if you had the budget, rent lighting rather than a DVX. The issues with the DVX is everyone (even ppl in the industry) thinks the cine gamma look will give the video a fillmlook out of the camera. They cant be more wrong. If you are after the film look, lighting and shallow DOF should first on your list. The colours, gamma and saturation can be tweaked in post.

For your next film, do something that people will love. =)

Hobbes00,

If I interpret correctly, you are taking a swipe at my posting to the TS. If you are not, then I apologize.

Let me first state that I did not in any way shoot the script down. As a matter of fact, I found the story quite good. The lack of closeups is a obvious one and it will dramatically improve the video if they were shot and included at the appropriate points. If all the TS wanted was "wah good good" kind of comments, then he will not ever learn anything in any aspect of his life.

Renting a DVX will not give him any closeups...it will only give him the "filmlook" that has been sadly seen as a substitute for great lighting, good control of DOF, selective focusing and other factors that makes a video truly look like a masterpiece.

Hey, I actually agree with your comments, all of them.

I said what I said because I don't really like the story - it is not what people like to see. When I mean people I'm speaking about the international genera public audience.

I will definitely keep that in mind. Its probably time for me to go pick up some lessons on lighting :) It's the first time i'm doing a drama so lighting didn't really come across my mind.

As for closeups, i think its a bad habit of mine that i have to change because i didn't really like to film closeups using handcams...ha..but thanks anyway! :)
