Dear Mr Nikkornos,

Thank you for your email to Minister for National Development Khaw Boon
Wan.

Please be assured that Minister Khaw has taken note of your concern, and we
are currently looking into your feedback in consultation with HDB. Should
you have further queries, please feel free to contact either MND or HDB at
mnd_hq@mnd.gov.sg or qsm@hdb.gov.sg.

Thank you.

we should propose that the pelican playground be preserved.

If not, the Pelican can be preserved to somewhere or to some playground.

Smashing it up is insane. :nono:

Hey Jon, for the sake of discussion, what reason did you put forth to MND to preserve the playground? Isn't a safer and cleaner playground a step forward for our future generation?

Bro Jos, fully agree with you that playground should be clean and safer. Also true that the Pelican playground may not meet certain playground safety standards (most likely defined in the west).

The reasons put forth to MND :

1. The playground is unique and a common memory for many Singaporeans.
2. The playground represents an era of Singapore and should be preserved.
3. Preservation/improvement is a better option than complete removal.

Thanks Mr "Nikkornos" for writing in :)
For me, memories are like my roots, you want to look back and be able to "identify" with an object (be it venue, building or even activity).

If there is a petition, I would be proud to join.

Nikkornos is aka me Jon. Ha ha.

As we do not have any hard evidences that it will be torn down, the work Petition may sound hard.

So I asked 'Minister to help conserve'.

Based on the reply, the message has got thru, and we should at least propose a letter.

Let me start:

Dear HDB/QMS,

We are a group of Singaporeans who wish to request for the preservation of the Pelican animal themed playground in the Dover Estate.

1. The playground is unique and a common memory for many Singaporeans.
2. The playground represents an era of Singapore, and should be preserved.
3. Preservation/improvement represents the effort of Government in national building.
4. Memories are important for Singaporean, especially when many old buildings have disappeared.

We have written to Minister Kwah to reqest for his help in this conservation.

Please kindly let us know what we can do, as Singaporeans, to help preserve such assets which will be too expensive to loose in time to come.

Sincerely,

Signed.

Feel free to edit this letter. We can then sign in this coming Saturday meet or at your convenience.

I'll sign at the sat outing

As expected :(

Dear Mr XXXXXXX

We refer to your email of 6 Jun 2012 to the Minister (National Development).

2 We have considered your request. The playground that you have mentioned in your email is currently located in the precinct of Blks 30 to 32 and 34 to 39 Dover Road. These nine HDB blocks were previously affected by our Selective En-Block Redevelopment Scheme (SERS) and will be scheduled for demolition in a few years' time. Meanwhile, these blocks are put to interim use, such as for the Interim Rental Housing which will provide temporary accommodation for needy Singaporean households.

3 It is our foremost concern that the amenities in the Dover Road precinct are safe for the residents' enjoyment. As for the playground, we have assessed its condition but unfortunately, we found it to be of poor condition and poses safety and hygiene threats to the users. Hence, it is important that we remove the playground in view of the risks it poses.

4 We seek your understanding in this matter. If you need any clarification, please email my Senior Estate Manager, Mr Alex Lor at lcs15@hdb.gov.sg. Thank you.

smoking also pose safety and hygiene threats to the ALL people here, so why not ban cigarettes? i am exposed to so much 2nd hand smoke everyday because so many people light a cigarette and walk... the smell lingers for days sometimes and i really hate it...

Simple, goto the Meet the people session and smoke and puff straight into the minister face. You will be famous the next day.

The time has come.
