Now back to the debate :

I don't think they are grainy. Perhaps few of our user here got some configuration problem?

look at full-sized shots... try Steve's Dgicam's
his skies are grainy, and blue sky day shots shouldn't be.

notice the mottling when viewing original size pics...
BUT frankly we are spoiled by DSLR pics... most slosumer cams look like this...

Who cares about grainy?

I am sorry but are the blue skies in those pages u linked grainy? I can't seem to see anything wrong with them though. Thought they were all pretty good and well exposed for a digital camera. Colour saturation is beyond my expectation actually even for shots with overcast skies. I wonder if the mottling u are talking about is due to compression or other things rather than the camera? I am not sure being only a novice.

erm it's grainy lor... aka like older cams... I have sony 707 jpgs that are nicer... the mottling is like older cams... my cp990 had less...

Okay. I mean that kind of mottling looks like some form of under exposure like I get for my lousy under exposed outdoor shots in very bright sunlight and didn't compensate properly.

Sadly it seems that the top of the line range of consumer digital cameras cannot make it yet. Wonder how long more we have to wait for tack sharp shots like from a SLR.

The picture samples belie the words.........I guess highly recommended is highly relative...............in comparison with what is available, I guess it is okay. It seems that camera companies are simply targeting the point and shoot consumers since they are more easily enamoured with new technology as well as having the latest bragging rights.............Many of my friends go "wow!!" when they see a digital camera but they kind of don't understand that it is just a new-fangled toy with not much practical use since it is simply too expensive to produce prints which is what they are after finally and also too limited in storage. Pros are more discerning and will require that the DSLR give as good or better pics. I am no pro but I wait ;)
