Noticed the lenses? Will try to do a comparison soon on the modern Fujinon vs. vintage.

Credit to the camera that taken these images too.

I find the OOC images a tad too clean.
Here are some PP with Silver Efex Pro to simulate TriX400.

Too digitalised ? How abt the film filters? Know dun have tri-x but how abt the other film filters?

I wonder if anyone used manual exposure on the X100 on daylight. In my opinion, i find it difficult to meter as the blue metering bar can't really be seen when shooting daylight using OVF. I think the hardest part is to get over with is the wrong direction for both the shutter and aperture dials. Keeps turning the wrong direction!

It comes with 7 presets: provia, velvia, astia, monochrome, mono with Y, G, R filters.
The monochrome presets play mainly with contrast only.

The next firmware upgrade may have more presets:)

I don't recall having problem with MF.
BTW, you can change the direction of the focusing ring in the menu.

I am referring to the shutter and aperture dials' direction. Focusing is ok as it can be customised. :)

This little gem probably needs a thumbs-up type of grip to improve the handling, I feel rear command wheel could be placed in a better location

Ok finally some outdoor shots. AF still a bit slow but doable.

Here's a shot on M9 with Fujinon lens. I love the IQ better but X100 pretty strong. Can't really compare them directly anyway.

Anyone planning to do a film provia vs digital provia compare? :p

Chanced upon this ball game at Kallang.
Don't really know how to shot colors but here goes...

Shot using ASTIA preset.
PP in LR: some cropping and reducing of Vibrance and Saturation

[Not using Macro mode. Focusing distance is about 0.4m which is only possible with MF. AF minimum focusing distance is 0.8m]

Noticed the colors are less vibrant. Should try the velvia setting next.

I reduced Vibrance and Saturation in LR.
I prefer more muted colors :)

Wow...more digital poison from this new toy...any conclusion drawn so far after some test shots...looking forward to brothers review...

on opposite ends

Day 3 with the x100: find myself thinking about love, a bolt from above, then you know. This aint it then.

The x100, for all the oohs and ahhs its gets in the looks department, is just that. fashion before functionality, all the bells & whistles wrapped up in a pretty package. What innovation sulks in the shadows thrown by the glaring light of the beauty pageant. And the innovation isnt that "innovative" after all.

Something about that just don't sit well with me. I'm just getting old I suppose...

Can't knock it, the camera is indeed pretty, the camera works and works well, buttons do what they are supposed to do, things happen as they are supposed to happen, all systems nominal, all systems go. It works

patrol

At the end of the day, the x100 is a, very competent PNS, dressed up in our grandfathers clothes. A throwback to another age with the soul or sterility, depending on your perspective, of today: the present.

The x100 has many personalities. On full manual, it handles exactly like any rf, the focussing takes a little getting used to as the throw seems extremely long. Little too stubby though, the lens: both focus and aperture dials thin, unlike the familiar rhythm of placements on an M.

There's a bit of the Contax 645 lurking in there too. The MF assist button is a borrowed concept.

On aperture/shutter priority or full auto: it's like any other pns. Easy to use and you just can't go wrong.

commando

The lens is of no doubt, the crown jewel in this set piece, renders beautifully and with emotion. At f2 its a sight to behold. But who really cares about this? Everyone wants sharp, sharper, sharpest along with big, bigger biggest. Oh plus, yeah, wherever this logic came from- "it looks great on the LCD screen so its a great cam"

The legacy of the x100 for our community will be only reason to own this: the spectacular & brilliant OVF/EVF: for the rest of the world: beauty above all sells.

The lesson learnt: get your self into advertising, you'd make a million bucks just selling hype

Well, not all hope is lost, the missus likes it loads, so it may be loved. As for me, I'm off to rediscover my soul in the light.....with a holga.
