A couple of weeks ago I decided to buy a 85mm f1.4 lens and headed down to Cathay Photo. Unfortunately they were out of stock and although tempted by the CZ 85mm f1.4 I decided against it. Went to Alan Photo in Funan who gave me a better price than Cathay and had one in stock. Sold!

Today I decided to get the 28-70mm f2.8 to complete my glass collection and again, headed to Cathay Photo first. Again, no stock. Off to Alan Photo where not only did they have stock, but also had choice between Singapore and 'grey' set. Great price and good service so sold again.

I try to give Cathay Photo my business as I have always had good service there and know a few of the guys quite well but if they don't have stuff in stock, what can I do! That well over $4000 worth of business they lost from me by not having stock in. I can't understand it.

Well.. sometimes, it's a matter of business.. they are only allowed so many pieces to hold and if it's a hot item, they are the ones to be sold out first. ;)

its not under their control to have stock or not... you think they do not want to earn $? :dunno:

Think from another angle. Maybe AP has only have a few pieces in stock but took longer time to deplete the stock whereas CP may already sold out a huge stock of the lens? :dunno: Cathay could already have made more than AP did but just have to miss the $4000 from you.

I am surprised that CP don't try to somehow get stock from elsewhere, even if it means they don't make a profit. At least they keep a customer. I know another electrical store who will buy from a competitor to keep customers happy, even if it means they make a slight loss.

CP must give Nikon more of a hard time if they cannot get the stocks they need.

Between competitors, who'd want to let go of their stock for other companies to make money??

Think about it. And no point buying it at RRP from another competitor just to make customers happy...

each shop is allocated a certain quantity.
it is a known fact that a lot of Nikon products are out of stock.

anyway, the items you were looking for are considered one of the rare ones.
not so easily available.

Lets make the other way.

Next time you go to AP first, then CP. On that case, you will never want to go to CP ;) .

Actually you can always play your finger first on... er..., what we call that machine... oh... telephone or handphone... before you go to CP or AP.

Regards,
Arto.

just nice no stock mah....

But u got call them before you go?

nothing wrong with that mah ... a matter of timing and dun understand why such a small matter required you to start a new thread here ??

Market here is too small for Nikon SG to hold stock for a long time. More efficient to do a order and distribute system, less overheads.

let me share my experience:

it's quite a joke, they told me the specks in the 17-40mm F4L are bubbles in glass, while the 3rd party lens without specks bcos plastic lens.
WTF? all the more should not have bubbles in glass for an L lens!
I said I come back another time when they have new stock, they don't even bother to take down my number.

Metz flash also "don't have for canon mount, only bring in for Nikon", what bull?

I happily bought my metz from MSC at a lower price.....CP not interested I tink.:dunno:

To the Threadstarter, please post at the appropriate section. This is Nikon forum and is not appropriate for such posting. As the main subject here is not the Nikon lenses but Cathay Photo and how much money you would have spent with Cathay.

Thread moved.

Well...no stock doesn't really mean CP is worse than AP, but I, personally don't like CP, too.

They told me that something I bought can work, but when I tried, it didn't not work, and I'm sure that they knew that, but just wanted to sell it to me...

I don't wish to go into too much detail, and then OT...but go CP only when you have no other choices...:)

I don't think CP is worse than AP, in fact, if you read my post, I want to shop at CP but their lack of stock prevents it.

I guess the problem is supplies into Singapore and nothing that CP can do about it. But I think Nikon needs therefore to look at it's distibution and reassess whether there is more demand in Singapore.

I agree, but maybe its just bad luck on those 2 lenses?

Loving the new picture by the way, looks a bit like Adam Duritz :bsmilie:

maybe the stock too hot liao, last time when CP @ Peninsular did not have the grip for the 20D, one of the guys send the last piece over from CP Marina...now that's service...and i guess being a regular helps.

I do agreed and CP give me very good pricing for Canon. :D

YMMV

It is perfectly normal for a popular shop to have no stock.
You can call 1st to ask.
CP do not need you to understand them.
Yes, we know you spend $4000.

Lastly, why need to start this thread :dunno:
