Is this the same breed which was originally bred to hunt lions?
Think I saw a owner around Frankel area walking his dog. Wasn't muzzled either. Looks friendly too...
Yeah, historically, they make very good hunting dogs.
Frankel area.. I think that big dog, which you are referring to, is a Great Dane, not a Rhodie.

Hi,
Does anyone know of any local dog breeder specialising in Ridgebacks?
Thanks
I think with any dog, proper training from a young age is necessary to keep your pet in check. This breed has a dominant character which requires an even more dominant owner. Best to show who's the alpha male around the house from young. The breed doesn't take well to kids and does not like rough play which children often engage in. They sometimes react to such play in a violent outburst. I wouldn't be surprised if those maulings in Australia were a result of rough play.
Definitely a Ridgeback... I asked the owner why the dog has a strip of fur which faces the wrong direction on the back...
AVA's website does not seem to have a list of dog breeds which are "banned" in S'pore. However, they have a list of dog breeds which must be muzzled when in public. And Rhodesian Ridgebacks do not seem to be on that list, which is quite puzzling because Rhodies can be known to be quite aggressive.
