IMHO,

Yes, I am a canon user.
I was using a XXXD for a few years, before switching to XD.
I was also wondering if the results will be significant, before spending the money to get a better body.
The answer : YES, XD is significantly better than XXXD. However, this comparision is only fair if we shoot an exact same image with the same lens.

However, at many times, a XXXD user's photos can surpass the Xd user, as skills and artistic/photography flair of each user is also different.

anyway i think that buying the camera that u can afford + some good lens is what we should focus on. Then go take pictures and focus on taking pictures and PP if needed. say if u have a $3000 budget then u can get a 500D + 17-55 and a prime lens something like that, but if u want to get a 7D then you can only buy 1 more lens probably. I would rather go with more lens any day.

If you can afford, why not. There are some features that the entry level is weak as compared to the xD bodies (i.e. AF speed, etc).
Having said that, i think invest in good lens is a better option.

more impt is the one behind the cam, imagine you pass a 1DmkIV to a totally newbie? He will just put it to auto mode and snap it like a PnS...

There is no auto mode for 1-series :think:
