If lock-ups are such a big concern, why don't just update the firmware to ver 1.05. After all, that's the reason why Canon created the firmware update for. What else should Canon be doing about this lock-up problem that they did not correct with ver 1.05, I wonder?

Apparently, v1.05 didn't resolve the lock-up issue, so it's still a concern.

So far no issue after changing Firmware. Also no issue with
1.0.2.

There's some problems with back focusing with the 17-40. Anyone know how I can resolves this?

No lockups on mine... from the first 1.0.2 to the new 1.0.4 then to the new 1.0.5. If it doesn't lock up on yours..... its unlikely that it will. SO far no one I personally know have this problem.
:)

Yeah its loud... like a AK-47... my 300D sounds like a M-16 in comparison.

oh my... seems like the back focusing issue doesn't escape the 20d too!
u will have to send the body + affected lenses to Canon for calibration....
i think it is free is items are under warranty.

Just to add on: the new lock up is due to a hardware design fault, namely a design problem with the vertical grip. The portion of the vertical grip where you push into the battery compartment is a tad too small and in certain circumstances causes contact problems and then err99. So far I had encountered the problem once but no more ever since the last incident. Problem was quickly solved by re-insertion of BG-E2 plus a bit more tightening on the knob. Not exactly a big problem in my opinion though.

I used this workaround from dpreview to solve this contact problem
