Fully agreed with this. Its not only the cost, FF lenses are usually wasted on cropped sensors as their range is not fully optimized. eg. 17-35 on 1.6x = 28-50mm lens... :thumbsd:

Yes, I wish the 17-40mm was really a 17mm at the wide end on my camera. If it was, then they'd be plenty of reasons for me to buy it. Tele lenses work nicely on such cameras to give added reach though, which can be useful depending on the application.

Film has its own strengths as well. Ultimately, if you're happy with the results then the medium is less of an issue.

I've no probs with the medium bro, the prob is only the costings of buying and developing....can be rather strenous per mth, especially if have events such as the river hongbao and fireworks.

Yes, that's significant recurring cost. It might be a little hard to do, but if you were able to hold off on making too many photos at this time and moving the savings on to get a second-hand 300D or D60, then you're all set! I remember looking at the D60 in awe over three years ago when I first bought an A40. And though I don't have it, and have never held one in my hand, I have a certain liking towards it.

I did consider even a 2nd hand D30 but i don't think getting 2nd hand DSLRs are worth it. Might as well start working in future and buy a 1st hand 20D.

Good thought...the initial investment may cost more, but it'd be something you can hang onto for some time. Best of luck with it. Cameras are getting cheaper by the day, so it won't be too long before you can get one.

But digital for me may not be anytime soon....may not be even this year cos even after started working, must save for future too

Yup, good to save with the future in mind...however, if you can get your 20D within even the next two or three years, that would be considered pretty soon! And I'm sure you can, for who knows what gizmos they will have on the market within the next year or two?

I suppose after the replacement for 20D has been launched, the price of 20D will fall. But for now....still my gd 'ol EOS 30

I'd bet that this year's PMA 2006 will see a new version of the 20D. It's been around for a while. In the technological world, even 6 months is a long time.

This statement is incorrect.

A larger sensor requires better not worse glass. Don't forget that the projected image circle from the back of a lens is the same size regardless of the sensor. So a bigger the sensor (regardless of the resolution) will mean it sees more of the image circle where you start to get vignetting and edge softness - this is true of ALL lenses although on many, in particular most pro glass, this is either insignificant, sometimes to the point of being not detectable (therefore, not there), but applies to ALL lenses just in varying degrees.

Conversly a smaller sensor, again of any resolution will be less prone to vignetting or corner softness because it only sees the 'sweet spot' of the image circle thrown by the lens.

So it will be super to have both full frame and good optical lens. Any in the market? Leica? Nikon? Canon? or.....?

I doubt so...the price of 3D is rumoured to be between 5D and 1Ds Mk II.

Specs i'm not so sure yet...it looks like a smaller version of the 1D series.
