Bro (TS), I had the same lens before and it certainly felt better with a tripod collar, especially when switching from landscape to portrait orientation. Bought an OEM cheapo made in PRC tripod collar at first as I was put off by the original's price ($190)... But take note that some (like the OEM tripod collar I used) will scratch ur precious L-lens when u rotate it around to switch modes. That's what happened to my lens... Heart pain... Then I bought an original one after using the OEM one just once... Did a comparision and found that the felt lining on the inside of the tripod collar which I guess is to protect the lens differs btwn the two - it was covered fully on the original and none of the metal surfaces came into contact but on the OEM one, the felt lining did not cover the inside of the collar fully which caused the exposes metal surface to scratch the lens body when rotated...
Learnt a painful and costly lesson that time... Now I think of it this way, u spend close to $2K on a lens and want to stinge on a matching tripod collar and risk damaging (comestically) ur baby (L-lens)?
