I also do MF on AF lenses :p...

I think I will probably start to use AF when I get my 400L or 600L lens for aviary shots in the future. :p

when AF doesn't work very well, i will try with MF :)

I'm mostly using AF. But certainly using MF for Macros and I do have some MF lenses, so obviously MF with them.

Dear CSnappers,

I have been wondering for quite a lot time if most photographers prefer AF or MF when capturing the moment.

You can list what kind of genre you are taking and whether it is MF or AF in preference for you.

For me, I prefer manual focus as I can really make sure that I capture the spot I want. I find that AF tracking really waste quite alot of time, especially for macros and potraits, and it is not spot on all the time.

Macro shots: MF
Portraits: MF
Landscape: MF

Hope to see some inputs from everyone here.

Btw, this is a public poll ;).

Actually I always like to ask, besides for macro, how do you guys manual focus accurately for things like half/full body portraits, events, sports etc?

How to see which point is in focus from the tiny viewfinder? :dunno:

Sorry for my noob qn.

Have not tried sports photography but for potraits, I do use manual. One way to determine if the focus is spot on, is to make sure you have AF-Assist Beam enabled. Focus the model's eyes on your desired AF point in the viewfinder, then do a half shutter with MF and snap it when the beam lights up at that point. :)

Most of the time AF. Dun care, jus shoot, let the cam do the job if AF is possible (be it cpu in ur body or lens, either in one of them or in both)

Can't think of any other time using MF other than shooitng macro or suaysuay AF fails u :)

Voted MF.
75% of my lenses are MF

My cam has been quite accurate in AF, though sometimes it frustrates me when the AF fails.

So for me for it's half-half between AF and MF. Also coz I've got MF lenses.

But basically, I really hate to squint my eyes thru the viewfinder to check focus.

HI

Interested to use manual focus and try it before.

But it hard to get focus on pix. Is there any setting on lens other than switch to Manual on lens and camera body?

Pls give me some advice.

I am using mid range lens to tune the manual focus.:dunno:

Rgds,

AF almost all the time(90%)
MF whenever difficult situations like through objects,

Rgds,

Probably, you want to share with us your setups and what genre you are usually shooting? ;)

Changed most of my lenses to MF lenses, so MF ...
