I think I have lurked long enough :D :D in these forums to know that SS now has the 17-40L, 24-70L and the 70-200L IS. Am I right ? ;p At least from what I read over the time. Your quote of SS was made in 6 Oct 2002. So you see, once you've tried an L lens, there's no turning back !

p.s. Last sentence is a tongue-in-cheek statement. Just in case.

I don't need L lenses; I want L lenses! ;)
This is exactly how I feel too. Nice to have but not necessary. But then again if you have big bucks then go for it.

Well, honestly i think that L lenses are not really ncessary...
a normal consumer lens used properly is as good as a L lens in the hands of a newbie...
L lens are also used by some people as a mark of wealthiness... :dunno: :dunno:

Do I need L lens ????

I will buy some day ... ;)

Of course you need to get L lenses! How else do you suppose you can take great pictures??

all u need is just a L in your Life... :)

Its the person behine the camera tat matters, my prespective.

L lens, as I would put it, a Luxury rather than a comodity... but of course, like some of our CS'er had said, Have the Money, Go L... :D:D:D

...

And this, reminded me... wish I had a L Lens when I was taking a few snap in the Pinnicles Desert... got some sand dust into my lens...

if u can't take good pictures with any 50mm $100+- bucks lens, u tink the L can?

the greatest images in pre-modern era weren't taken with L lenses, what does that tell u?

if a picture strikes u in anyway, it's probably not the lens credit, but the photog...and his mind.

in short, yes, get the L lens.

heard that Canon is coming out with another L lense.
The 28-300mm USM L IS.
anyone knows how much it cost?
Seems like not in singapore yet

yah yah yah !!! (excited liao)
This one!
i think not in singapore yet.
USA Websites says i think more than 2K USD

If you can't tell the difference. :)

Last week, I had the chance to try one of the L-lens from one of the member here. Its supposed to be sharp and fast, but I didn't enjoy it. and can't tell the difference of sharpness, compared to my Sigma EX lens

In the end, I use back my Sigma EX that I am more comfortable with to finish the rest of my shots.

Conclusion: Amatuers (like me) most likely can't tell the diffs, don't need expensive lens. sigma EX is sharp and fast and cheap enough (for me) to carry on shooting for fun and as a hobby.

How true... Newbies like me who just pick up photography as a hobby, won't be able to tell the difference... probably spending hours and hours on the same shot taken with difference lens, might detect some differences, and at the end drawing a conclusion: does it matters?

There is no justification for the price of L lens in the realm of amatuers, with exception that you have a lotsa cash to burn...

on a dslr with cropping factor, you may not need an L lens to get very good image quality (cos only the centre part of the lens -up till 13mm?- is used and some consumer/third party lens perform very well in the centre - maybe as good as some L). but the generally faster aperture and sometimes faster focussing, weather sealing and IS of the L lenses could come in very useful.

I'm a newbie in photography... recently bought a dlsr and happened to test out the canon 17-40 L series len..Instantly i was impressed and quickly I understand y ppl throw in so much money for a pc of glass. Though I do alot of post processing on my current 300D pics, I guess I'll still prefer the real sharpness and contrast. Think my next investment will be a L series len. One thing I would like to know is can 3rd party lenses offer the same type of sharpness as compare to canon original L series len?
