Do I really need UltraZoom

er olympus M43 has 14-150mm and 9-18mm, you might just need this 2 instead of the 14-42mm when you travel....both lens are not heavy or bulky..

Hi, need some advice.

So instead of using a zoom lens, can I try this method:-

Shoot using using the Highest Resolution and the Least Compression and then crop to bring the desired image closer to imitate the same area as if shooting with a zoom lens.

What is the difference in result for both methods?

The difference is perspective distortion (assuming you do not crop so much as to affect image quality)

Maybe like what my friend said....buy long zoom can shoot bird....but after he bought, he found out that the focus too slow to shoot bird......

No need to shoot bird, too slow to shoot bird? If the bird moving then quite slow, if roosting, shouldn't be a problem, buy long zoom not necessary shoot only birds, I bought the 70-300, one of the biggest mistaken, I hardly used it, sold it, I use my 50-200 very often, events, portraits, wildlife etc

If u got sm cash to spend, then just pick a 2nd hand lens to try..u can still sell them if u don like..
Never try nver know.
Things abt travelling n photography is tat, u wont have as much luxury time to change lenses especially on tour w family n not a specific photography trip.
Unlike wide angle or normal lenses, u cant really move w just a zoom lens for such trips..
So if u r bringing it, i foresee u will change as and when u need it..
My suggestion, kip close to 1 lens of all focal range(kit), its easier to move a little forward n bacwards to frame ur picture.
In de event u come across things tat is too far for ur reach, then just enjoy it its a travelling so ur priority is to enjoy de trip..u don have to capture everything u see from wide to tele to make de trip worth!

So by opening ur bag, switching lenses den shoot, thereafter change back normal lens, u think de subject will still be there?
I always bring lotsa lens but end up its always my wide on my camera..just end up weighing myself dwn w lotsa lens
