DL Editor's Pick is the 5D3

Ok i agree nothing definitive that d800 is in the same league as MF. Price not the same class. In terms IQ ok MF win, but by how much? To a layman able to get 36mpx at that price where previously these resolutions belong to MF grade. You tell me, izzit this a game changer?

It's like bring the 35mm up to the big boys and the pics are not that bad either. Yah u can say its not MF grade. But at the price for that quality. If that's not value for $ dun noe what is.

If you think about it, MF will have better advantage in terms of thin DoF, favored by wedding photographer such as Jose Villa. But if you just compare shooting Portrait, Fashion or Landscape where more likely you will go for deeper DoF, D800 might get a touch on what MF is doing.

What's the fuss? Its an opinion. Everyone has one. Everyone's different. If you have a D800, what DL said will not your photos worse. If you have a 5D3, what DL said will not make your photos any better either.....

Who made such a claim? The dissatisfaction is largely directed at the poor reporting in a national newspaper.

Since when do we enjoy quality reportage? Don't like what you read, move on...

DL is writing for consumers that rarely shoot in studio and almost never print more than A3 size, many shoot JPEG.

Prosumer shouldn't read consumer report, their need is different from regular mum and dad shooting baby at home. Many are happy as long as the subject is in focus.

Consumer report for cars will say that Rangerover and Ferrari consumes too much petrol and Lamborghini is too loud.

Interesting behavior observed here. A siimilar choice made by others echos and reaffirms our decision. It's only human nature that we feel this way: We like people who are like ourselves.

Picture shot with D800 at ISO6400. I think it is not too bad, right? Converted from raw without editing.

We are here comparing the D800 against MF while DL declare the 5D2 to be the editor's choice. The D800 is a game changer while the 5D3 is just correcting the deficiencies of the 5D2. I suppose we are not the target audience of DL.

yah, can agree more !
i am a D700 user. i took for granted the kind of focusing ability with D700, as i thought any respectable good FX camera should have such an ability. until one day i tried out 5D2 from my friend's.... then i realised the marked difference. now, 5D3 is to correct its dificiencies & upgrade to similar as focusing as D700 which i already used for donky years ... i just feel a bit funny ... :)
