my dedicated VG should cost less than 150USD ;)

Nikon and Canon both know where to make more money from their user base....the accessories. SONY is loosing out an opportunity.

This only a PS image of the 5D with VG from D80. Length wise the grip is abt 5mm longer than the 5D base. Though the VG is selling for something like $300 bucks. If only it's cheaper might mod using it.

ya... i think sony gotto invest more on accessories to meet users' demand

See SONY next A-100 replacement. If still no VG then they truly deaf to users wants and do not understand the market at all.

See how Nikon force their D100 users buy their VG. To be able to use the cable shutter, need to purchase VG first. :bsmilie:

wah... a-100 replacement will be quite a while.... now is wait for 7D replacement.. scarly they also come out with must purchase VG first then can use cable shutter.. but i dun mind buying a VG :bsmilie:

7D replacement sure have VG, if not will see lots of people jump ship and lots of opportunity to buy those rare and good lens. :bsmilie:

Between all the camera accessories, VG is one good way to make money, cause it's very model specific. Change cam have to buy VG again. Flash, hotshoe adapters, and cable release (so far) just buy once and can be reused.

ya lo... i cant wait to see the 7d replacement. hope its better. was trying the film dynax 7 with my 17-35 to take some architecture buildings, its WWWWIIIIDDDEEEE. imagine using 11/12mm. faster sony, come out with a full frame digital!

11/12mm on the DSLR is like 17mm only. So far don't think there is 11/12mm wide angle for full frame.

We are so OT....VG = Wide Angle Lens. :embrass:

I alway wonder how wide will it be, but I think it sill won't be as wide as fish eye lens.

Design for DSLR sensor, if I'm not wrong are the Tamron 11-18, and Sigma 10-20 for wide lens wider than 15mm.

Sigma got 2 FF wide....Sigma 12-24 and 15-30mm.

what are the lenses which are not FF?

Not necessary... it depends on whether the company wants to reuse the design... if it ain't broke dun fix it... especially if the batteries used are the same... they can always keep the contacts design the same and mod the body to fit the new camera body' shape...

That's users wishes, but rarely taken into consideration by the manufacturer. For the manufacturer it's "if we can make an extra buck and get away with it...just do it." :)

they should standardise their accessories, then can reuse alot of things, dun need to redesign the whole thing, just improve on the durability as such, etc

Let's see which manufacturer will do it first. :D

Anyone else interested to DIY VGrip for 5D can get a compatible BP200 from Cathay @ Peninsular Plaza for $40 (Before discount $80). Its not the original Canon BP200, but a compatible one made by Tianmen (IIRC). The shutter button looks slightly different too, but it can still perform half and full press, for focusing and shoot respectively.

Its innards has very little difference compared to the original BP200 and I managed to get it working by following the DIY guide and links in this thread. Great info from those who tried before, its hard to go wrong. Will try to post pics of my own VGrip soon too.

There are a few pieces left. Try asking for Kelvin. Great customer sevice from this guy.

This is the VGrip that I got and DIYed. Sorry for the poor quality of some of the pics. Those were taken using my 6230i after the batts in my Canon A80 died and I didn't have spare. Corretion, the name of the Grip is called Tianma as seen in the first picture.

I pasted black tape, those grippy kind, to the top of the VGrip and the bottom of my 5D to improve adherence to the 5D body. It does not slip around now. Quite happy with the grip, though wish it were bit thicker so that I can grip it better. And the switch mechanism in the grip is those cheap looking push button type, but it feels solid and working fine. Other than that its great!

Hi,

My friend brought some BP-200 last week, he can mod it for 5D or A100, PM me if anyone interested
