Hi Guys,

Moderators please move this to another thread if this is not the right thread...

I need some help. I want to make my own follow focus for my 5D MK II.. saw this clip on you tube....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jaC2JBrZHU&feature=related

So what i need help is in where i can find the parts like the bevel gear, the pinion gear and the 'L' shaped metal block as well as the rail mount.

Been searching hardware shops but cant seem to find anything. Anyone know any good hardware shops that may have these items.

Thanks in advance

Hi,
I think you can't easily find such parts that are ready made for assembly. I believe the black Delrin plastic parts are specially machined to design.

While you can find bevel gears from shops selling radio-controlled cars (or you can try the electronics shops at Sim Lim Tower), you may need to consider the gear rings that you'll have to fix on your lens. If the pitch of the gears are not the same, they won't mesh and it won't turn.

The system in the Youtube video mentioned it being sold at USD $100. Altho the build is quite bad (due to the possibility of misalignment of the double L plates). I think it is quite cheap for a workable solution. You should consider getting it. DIY your own along his design will definitely cost you more.

(You can make your own Z plate to replace the double L plates)

I will be getting it.. but i thought of diy as well... only thing that i wont diy is the flexible gear that goes around the lens...

Anyway.. i dun know why i didnt think of it in the first place but thanks for the heads up about checking hobby shops.. i just got my pinion and bevel gears.. I got a RC tire to use as the knob...

Well if everything works i will post pics...

cheers
