Hi. Just came back from diving in Burma Banks and thought of sharing some pics here.

First time using a DSLR u/w, so your constructive comments are most welcome.

Cheers.

First, some wide angle shots:

Wow.... loved your last Nudi.... never seen one like it yet....

That last nudi is a winner. I love the "eyes" on it.

Thanks for kind comments guys. :)

Taking the pics of that nudi was quite a challenge due to the strong and erratic currents at that site. I expended close to 50 bars of air just trying to get some good shots out of it.

is current more of a problem there? no pelagics?

Current were pretty strong at most of the sites that we dived, due to the openess. Viz wasn't the best there as well, max up to 15m, with an average of 10m.

There were pelagics, e.g. sharks feeding on schools of fishes, mantas jumping out of water, but all these happened during our surface interval, so i guessed we just dun have the luck :( .

There were also signs of dynamite fishing at certain sites, evident from the blotches of dead corals. The "plus" side is that there are hardly any dive boats there, so you'll get the "exclusive" use of the dive sites, instead of having tens of divers crowding in the same vicinity ... guess it could prob be due to the exhorbitantly high marine park fee (US$150 vs 400Baht in Similans).

You actually can use flash under water? Wow!

Err..... there is such a thing called 'U/W Strobe'..... or even buy casing for top end model of common brand flashlight (Canon, Nikon.... etc).

i'm a newbie diver and new to the forum too. i hope to learn from u guys and be able take amazing shots like these one day

Using a Nikon D80, with S&S DX-80 housing and YS110 Strobes. Most of the shots were taken using a TTL converter.

Ditto on the compliments. Is that the name of that nudi? ~LOL~ that goes to show how much I know about marine life! ;p

Hi guys, sorry for the late replies, cos I don't usually log on everyday.

using wat lenS?
I used the Nikon 12-24mm, 10.5 FE, 60mm Micro.

I got there via Phuket. Friend of mine chartered the Black Manta and we sailed up north to Myanmmar. Cost of the trip including boat charter is about S$2.1K, excluding marine park fee, which is USD$150. Frankly, I went there for the experience and to chill out in no-man's dive land. Don't think I'll want to spend that kinda money to dive there again tho...
