the most recent one I've seen circumventing this is getting a google or US phone number to send sms to my phone! super irritating!
Also, one thing you need to take note, if your phone number is listed as a business number, like on your namecards or website, you are exempt from the DNC registry check if I am not wrong...~ but I am not a lawyer...just a cat.

The loophole is called 'existing customer relationship'. You can't stop Singtel or any bank from calling you about promotions if you are their customer.

Register for email bills, period.

Oh yes, heard about banks being able to call you for "promotions". That's really a lame excuse from the authorities.

It's like saying, if you litter cigarettes, you will be fined. But if you litter tissue paper, it's ok. They should be consistent about the whole Do Not Call policy. Obviously, the authorities are trying to help the banks. It's money-making opportunities to get more people tempted to sign up for credit cards or take up some interest-laden instant cash/credit loans.

So far, for the literally hundreds of phone calls I've received from banks over the years, I have zero sign-ups or meetups with them. Credit transfer, loans, new credit card signups, insurance, etc etc. Don't need them at all and to many of us, they can become almost like prank calls right when you are in the middle of important stuff at workplace.

As for the email bills, yes one could opt for that. But the point I was trying to make is the whole money-making thingy organizations like Singtel, Singapore Power and SingPost are trying to capitalize on.

No doubts about that. When I clear my letter box once a week it is 90% trash can material, dropped by Singapore Post on behalf of various bigger and smaller companies.

Recently I received many disturbing advertisements on my mobile. One of the most annoying example as follow:

<adv> We are looking for part time and full time CLEANERS! Call or sms 66526795 / 91447590 to apply. Thanks <un>

I wonder how these guys manage to get my mobile number? Do you know how to stop this spam on your mobile?

This is the same guy who was fined $78,0000 for violating the Do Not Call rules under the name of a tuition agency. He's back to his old tricks and now using the ploy of recruiting cleaners. See the CSI here

Obviously spamming is lucrative enough that he can just write off a $78,000 fine as a cost of doing business. Anyone who received spam from him under the name Star Zest, Cherry Education or Novo Cleaner, please report him to the PDPC and ask for him to be given jail time plus rotan so he won't forget the lesson.
