Distorted images created by SD Card Reader

I had bought 2 card readers and both seemed to have some kind of problems transferring images to the PC. Some of the images will be distorted or have some funny colours if I drag/drop the images from the SD card to the PC via the card reader. They were ok if I transfer them via connecting the camera directly to the PC. So I think the problem is with the card reader and my cards are ok.

Anyone experience this problem before?

The 2 card readers are less than $10 anyway and I am prepared to change to a better one. However, as there are so many card readers in the market, I don't even know which one is reliable. Any suggestion for SD card readers?

Funny, first time encounter reader problem. My own experience is it either dies entirely or working.

This is so strange.. Never heard if this before.. :o

I did a search on Google and found several results of people complaining about the same problem but no solution.

Agreed.
TS: why trying to save some bucks here? A decent Sandisk reader is about $20.

Went to Mustafa one night and grabbed it, all about the same price :(

Yes, I want to get the Sandisk Imagemate reader. Thanks for the recommendation :)
Managed to order it from Amazon :)

I grabbed some from Mustafa and they worked fine. Of course I grabbed the ones above $10. LOL.... I think mine is prolink brand. Works like a charm.

WAh... never heard of this problem before. I've got some super-cheap (and I mean waaayyyyy <$10) SDHC card readers, and they work fine as well.
Main issue is sometimes the PC cannot detect, but that is simple problem. Haven't heard of the card reader messing up the copied files.

I had this issue with a USB card reader for CF. It messed up the file system completely. From there it's just a short step to screwing the files. Luckily, with a working reader and some file system tools I managed to recover all files without any loss. The owner of this reader never had any issues. Seems it was the combination of laptop, reader and card that started the mess. Since I use branded card reader no issues anymore.
