Dissapointed By Deal

Hello Fellow "Snappers"...

I been "looking" around for a Nikon D70.
Since I am not that financially inclined, I think buying it from a major superstore is better.

For these past two days, I have been "looking" around at Best Denki, Harvey Norman and Courts.The prices are the same, which is S$2288, inclusive of GST. They allow instalments by Credit Card, differs from one store to another. One let the instalment stretch for 12 months only, while others up to 24 months.

This is "quite" acceptable for me. However, when I asked the salesperson from each store, of the package that i will get, they said I'll be getting, the Nikon D70 body, 18-70mm DX lens, the battery pack with chargers, the USB cable and Lens Hood.

They said that the flash memory card is not included. I need to pay about S$75.00 for a 128MB flash card. Now I find that this might not be a good deal.

Before I decide on anything, I wonder if anyone knew of any shop that sells Nikon D70 with the whole package I mentioned, that allows credit instalments a better price than these superstores.

If I cannot get a the whole kit with a memory card, then where can I get a Nikon D70 compatible flash memory card with a reasonable price?

Got a Sandish 512MB compact flash for $199 3 months ago. Prices have since dropped.

From what I know CF cards are not included in the standard package. Must buy. I HIGHLY recommend the LEXAR 40X cards. The 1 Gb is at a very good price now. 390 or 399, not too sure. Used to be around 470 a couple weeks back. The write acceleration kicks *ss!!

that place is simply fabulous.. service is good, price is fantastic and u can fine most of the stuffs u need there.. :thumbsup: i'm sure they'll be able to give u a better price than those u've been looking for..

SlowShutter, most dSLRs, if not all, don't include the CF cards in the bundle. From my experience, they usually include only during special offers like back during the Comex this year at Suntec, when Nikon bundled a CF card and tripod with the D70 package.

If you are not looking for very branded CF cards or microdrive. And not those shooter that will always fill the buffer of your D70, then you may not need the 40X speed.
This case u can either get a Movo2 and ripped of it's 4GB mrcrodrive, or buy off from some CS here who are selling them.
Or for smaller memory size and cheaper CF just keep a look out or post a WTB thread in Buy and Sell. Someone may be selling the CF u looking for.

Mscolor is selling the kit (lens included) for $2100 (with GST inlcuded). thot it was a pretty good deal. all DSLR packages, unless during some computer fair, dun come with CF cards. but, now that the prices have dropped a fair bit, u can always find a good deal for CF cards. or else, get a 2nd-hand one lar!

Bought my D70 at a major just a week ago. You'd need to ask for a discount in order to get one. I got $100 shaved off just by asking. So end up paying $2188 over 12mths for the kit.

Wanted to get extended warranty for it, since the CCD is likely to break within 5 yrs.... so no choice but to go to them and pay $88 more than prevailing "market rate". It's rumoured to cost almost $1k just to replace the CCD, ouch!

The Camera Workshop at Peninsular has got some new stock of D70 in. Think they have 3 sets last week. Hope it's still available.

Compact Flash cards are not included in the package. Go buy one from Sim Lim Sq. Any shop you walk into will sell you at a lower price than at the majors. Twinmos has a new 70x times CF card. Marginally faster than the current 40x ones. 512MB card costs ard $190 to $220, depending on brand and speed.

What? Can get discount just by asking for it? Ouch, I didn't know that, thought prices at majors are fixed, period. Shucks. Oh well. Can't be undone liow so can only stay happy and shoot more.

Erm.... Which superstore is that? :think: Those that I went, could not see them selling the cam. :complain: I supposed you did the 0% interest free installment eh?

The branch at parkway offered me the discount, but I went to the other one coz the set at parkway has a slight CCD problem - a few pixels are not active enough. Gave grey spots when shooting white surfaces...

Got the zero financing for 12mths too.

I thought it was on the newspaper quite sometime ago, that mentioned one of the big store, i think its HN, where the staff are given the flexibility to allow bargaining i.e. some discount.

There's one display pc at Millennium when I was there, but the one at Parkway is not on display since there's only one pc.

Bgt the only boxed set at Millennium, so I guess no more stock @ Millennium by now....

Parkway store prob sold that set by now. But I guess nobody will be interested in that particular one right?

Try calling to enquire. Shld be able to reserve one in advance. Otherwise, head down to TCW loh. Think they have three new sets last week (~$2150). CP and MS both out of stock again (and again).... think I'm damn lucky to get hold of it so easily :sweatsm:
