Discussion on new M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-50mm f3.5-6.3 EZ

My guess is that either if this lens would cost SDG1.3K above.

if the optical quality of the 12-35 is as good as a SHG lens from oly, i will pay 1.3K for the lens : ) There's no equivalent in the m4/3 system. I like my 14-54 Mk 2. But it doesnt have OIS. So i cant use it for handheld video.. too shakey.. the 12-35 with at least a f2.5 or 2.8 and with OIS is my dream lens..

My 4/3 oly 14-54 Mk II is also weather sealed... and it's a bright zoom..

It's not oriented toward video, though. If you use auto focus, you'll hear every movement, won't you?

Actually more lack of OIS. For AF, not really cos I take video of dance sport, dance events, pa events. Lots of ambient noise. To me it's not a problem. Lack of OIS for handheld video is the problem for me.

get an adaptor.
get the oly 12-60...at least it's faster

and oly still forgot to include a hood

If you take video of so many events, should you be using a video camera?

Dont really know what Oly is thinking. They are in the right track on m43. Why dont just come out SHG lens like the 12-60 n 50-200 for m43 than everybody will be happily spending. Whats wrong with their head?

Judging by the complaints online, it seems that enthusiasts like us are not the target market for this lens. I expect this lens to be bundled with upcoming bodies, as a kind of premium kit. With the power zoom, it will be attractive to those who are upgrading from compacts.

I think it's way to large for a PEN kit lens.

Lol.. I don't only shoot video. I shoot 75% stills. So the GH2 to me is the best hybrid for the money.. Right now I use my oly 14-54 for stills ands 14-140 for video. That's not the best way moving forward. So I'll look to the panny 12-35 & 35-100 next year for my dream pair. :)

I suppose with Sony and Nikon coming up with their own solutions to get around the Phase Detection AF problem, one would suppose that Olympus has seriously lost the plot.
