Halo... Hope that i could get some advice in this issue, thanks in advance:

I bought IXUS V3 for my sis, as she is flying ard so it is nice to be able to take her journey pictures.

She has a 128MB CF card, but the problem is she dun have a pc in her apartment, and it normally takes some hassle for me to help her transfer her files to my hd and burn it to cd.

Now she is considering of getting another 128MB or 256MB CF card.

Heard that there are other options such as microdrive, etc.
Can anyone give me some advice on the storage options? Is getting another CF card better? or any other storage options?
and also if possible, the approximate market price for such stuffs?

If i am not wrong, a 128CF card is ard 70 and 256 is ard 120.
How abt the microdrive and others?

Thanks.

:D

I personally would not recommend MicroDrive for the below reasons...

1. Since you is plan to take picture while travelling... the 'safety' of the pictures taken are very important... Mishandling or accidentally dropped the MD when overseas would render the MD faulty...

2. MD has known to be unreliable... (Of course, within the 1 year of warranty period, you are safe, but what are you going to do on the 367 days of usage and it failed...

I would suggest that she get a 256MB CF or 512MB CF is possible...

Just my 2 cents opinion

:D

Think if i got any drive, it will remain in my sister apartment, so as for each trip back, she transfer her files from her 128MB CF card to the drive, then when it amounts to certain size, i bring my laptop there and help her burn into cd...

or else she can bring the drive to those digital shop and print it out.

So any more suggestion?

Thanks.

i also suggest 256 mb n 512mb cards.
unless ur sis is a heavy shooter n really burns a few gigs...then get Xdrive ..not too sure bout price though

Yep, that is a common dilemma, isnt it? How much memory is enough for an overseas trip?

Depending on your sis need, and on the duration of the trip, I suggest getting an extra 256MB card. with that card and storing at full resolution (3MP), she would be able to store at least 180 images in there. This together with the 128MB card, ought to be enough.

But forget about the PC and stuff for storage (the less stuff you bring with you, the less stuff you can lose). Bring along the AV cable. Hook up the cam to the TV at the hotel at the end of the day, and start deleting whatever images that you dont like or are badly blurred etc. You will save lotsa space that way and start taking more tommorrow...

Again, really no need for an XDrive or other portable storage devices unless the shooting is heavy going.

I think a iomega fotoshow is suitable for your sister needs.

It is a standalone 250mb zip drive that you can copy your jpeg files from Compact Flash or Smart Media Cards (require AC power)

I use it for my recent trip. with my 3 zip disk (total 750mb) and my oly c4040 with 2 x 64mb cards. I was able to shoot more than 500 pictures!!!

However it is no longer supported by Iomega. Not sure any store still selling it new.

Do a search on fotoshow here and in hardwarezone...
