Digital Photo Lab Question *AGAIN*

Hi everyone. I am going to ask a question about digital photo labs, but before you groan at my ignorance, please do read on...

I did a search and found several labs below...
KT digital imaging in Hong Lim Complex
e-color at balestier point

The reason why I am asking this is because some of the threads here are very old, so I do not know if the old labs have collapsed or whether newer better labs with better print technologies have surfaced since...

Basically, I need to print around 500 digital photos, and am looking for a lab that prints 4R photos which I have taken on an overseas trip. The quality does not have to be superb, but it should not be cheap and lousy (the same quality as the regular $13.80 35mm prints will do.)

any recommendations? I have absolutely no idea of the different processing techniques/different papers, etc.

offering discount to clubsnappers, 4R should be 30cents per print, no handling charge...

anyway, it uses the fuji frontier 350....shld be the latest from fuji i think for current consumer labs...

They'll do colour correction adjustment for you unless u tell them not to.
So far my pics turned out very good from KTDI :thumbsup:

if i am not wrong KTCC=Kim Tian Color Centre, KTDI=KT Digital Imaging, they are seperate body but sharing same shop
anyway not a big problem... they provide color profile of their frontiers to calibrate your monitor to the machines so that colors will be as accurate as possible... try it out to see for yourself

Hotprint is quite near to KTCC/KTDI.. juz across the road
no harm dropping by both shops to compare the prices.. heehee...
as for quality.. u hav to see for yourself loh

ok, for those who wanna try good but different labs to compare & see, u can try these and they're all within walking distance...!

KTDI uses the Fuji Frontier minilab (I believe its the 370) on Fuji Crystal Archive Supreme paper. Gives very good rates to clubsnap members. Good prints.
Somewhere in this forum, there're good comments on a Knights Photo or something at chinatown pt which also uses the frontier, but I've not tried them, so no comments.

Hotprints uses the Agfa D-Lab minilab. I believe they're the only one that has it but don't quote me on that... Uses the Agfa Prestige Digital paper. Good prints too but I like their index prints best.. very nice!

Fotohub at OUB centre uses the Noritsu minilab. Prints on Kodak Royal paper. Very good prints too, and in fact, I use them the most bcoz they have an online submission that saves me one trip (if you're printing 500 photos, thats another story....)
They do have a branch at bukit timah that uses the Fuji Frontier but thats too far for me to put into the equation ... :angel:

I recommend the E-Colour at Balestier Pt. Also at $0.30 per 4R print, no handling charge. He will do the colour correction for you as well and cropping to 4"x6". Nice and friendly guy KaiRen.

before getting a GOOD lab for printing,

HAVE u do YOUR own colour correction? if not, the BEST colour lab in the world also cannot get the right colour u want.

prices, goes to the same lab, these people wants to earn your money, once u know them , u can get want u require from them at the shortest time and cheapest price... if u keep lab hopping, u will never get the BEST... go to HDB area... they will bring the price down as their rental is not that high, and they wants to have LONG term customer...

let them know what u need and not what they can give u...

is there a minimum no. of copies required for no handling charge? how much is it to burn a CD ah? erm.....do you happen to know how much it costs to print a 3R? thanks for your help!

Remember for neighbourhood shop, don't go for those auntie auntie shop. They'll print nuts for u, esp Standard Photo. Minilab should be maned by knowledgeable people.

Generally he charges $0.30 for > 100 pcs and $0.40 for < 100 pcs.
I never knew if he ever does 3R. Give him a ring 6352 9059 KaiRen.

cool... thanks everyone for the replies... you guys are so knowledgeable in all the various minilabs, etc.

the other day I passed by a shop and saw that they were using Fuji Frontier Minilab. I went in and asked what kind of paper they were using (whether it's Fuji Crystal Archive Supreme paper) and whether they do colour correction, so they went like, huh?

guess Pepper is very right about "Minilab should be maned by knowledgeable people."

frankly, I have very little knowledge about minilabs myself and which one is the best, so if anyone can post a link to any article about the various minilabs and the moderators can make it a sticky, it will be great! e.g. whether Agfa Prestige Digital paper or Fuji Crystal Archive Supreme paper is better

so far, I am receiving this vibe that KTDI and E-Colour are the best... but I really do not know which one to choose... all the gurus out there, please advise!!!

Just to add that more than 3/4 of the E-Colour's customers are professionals photographers and the rest, pro-sumers. Hardly any general consumers. The reason is that E-Colour uses Photoshop to individually colour correct and crop each picture. A lot of skill is required. Maybe that explains his pool of regular customers.
