a question on the equipment:
re: the scanners
i was thinking of scanning a few frames of mounted slides. what would be the difference between these models of scanners and the model that clubsnapper Kex uses at his Bedok North shop (which is only 3200dpi)? i heard Kex uses a drum scanner. does that mean that at 3200dpi it's still superior? i'm hoping to use the scan output for large prints. please advise.

thanks!

As with many things, you can't just look at the resolution of the scanner to make a judgement whether it is better or worse than another scanner. In addition to the input resolution, you've got to take care of the Dmax range (i.e. dynamic range--how wide a latitude of shades it can pick up) and the S/N ratio, etc.

I'll still go for the drum scanner anytime.

i didn't lar, but the prob is tat, u still can't get in since the chip not working anymore.. or just show then can enter? :o

The DMC is not like the com labs which needs your cards to enter. Its in the NUSSU service centre and is manned by student assistants. Thus anyone can go, juz need to sign in before using the facilities.

btw. if you go on Wed 3 to 7 u can see me on duty...........=p

well, one is DIY and instant, and free.
The other you get service, and take some money.

I agree that dynamic range is important, but with 48bit flatbed scanning, and 42bit film scanning, is not that bad right?

Any 4R printing?

Weel, 4R paper has ran out at a discounted price of $0.50 a pc.

I am sure that printing 4 images on a single A4 can give you the same results(except u gotta cut yourself).
;)

finally, we will have to wait and see if any more 4R paper can ordered, so that we can still offer it at the discounted rate.
