We are able to get the Digital Data Player (40GB 4200rpm) at S$699.
A few points to note though:
From what we understand, this device CANNOT play MPEG4, so we don't know what they mean by MPEG4 (Simple Profile)
MPEG I & II which the device supports is more like a very clear VCD quality, the sampling rate is nowhere near that used by MPEG4 or the more popular DivX, which has DVD quality
This device does not have any video input, hence you cannot record videos from TV, PC or camcorders.
Most video found on computers, internet and camcorders these days are in MPEG4 or DivX format, which this device does not support, hence for most cases it will take a lengthy conversion process to convert the various video formats to the format supported by this device. In most cases, it may take 5 to 12 hours to convert a 2 hr DVD quality movie.
The most hyped up video playback feature of this device is questionable as you still need a TV or computer for video playback, which is only VCD quality. But would you need this device when you can get DVD quality from commercial DVD or DivX players.
